You can use plus, it will be just fine. Plus, I think the C320 is able to run on different fuels. There is a sticker that comes on C320's that says something about alternative fuels and what mpg it will get with a different fuel. Except I don't know whether they are just talking different octanes, or a completely different type of fuel.
Regardless, you can still use plus.

In some states, including NY, I know that a manufacturer can void their warrantee if you do not put in the recommended octane and you cause damage to the car as a result. For MB its 92.

Octane
There are many posts on this subject. Some claim that octane requirements are selectable to some extent with the Star Diag system. My 3.2L Dodge Intrepid is tuned for 87 octane. I'm curious how much hp is lost on the MB engine if it were set up for 87 octane.

Hi
Can I ask how much you are paying for your fuel in US.
I am a little confused as this thread is about saving money by putting in a lower octane, yet you spend a lot of money buying a premium brand like MB and don't you get very cheap fuel over there anyhow.
We are approaching £0.80 a litre over here £3.60 a gallon. $5.40 approx

i pay for i think 93 or 94 octane about $1.50. three weeks ago it was about $1.25 a gallon. however, i know when to fill up. during the week this days it can go to $1.90. the best day to fill up here is usually wednesdays.
this is just the michigan and ohio prices i pay for gas. i don't know about other states.

But Apollo, you're right, we do have relatively cheap gas, and the savings between plus and premium is usually only 10 cents a gallon, so you're talking $1.50 savings on a full tank. It's not much difference, but I guess everyone likes to save whatever they can, and it also depends on how much you drive and how often you need to buy gas. I usually just go for 93 octane, especially since installing my pulley.

Early on when this forum started someone did a dyno test using 89 octane on the coupe instead of the recommended 91 and got something like 19 hp less. This car is on the edge with 91 octane, I wouldn't dare run it with less. That's not to mean the same is true for a 3.2L.

if won't get the sport utes off the road, and it shouldn't, since sales of those vehicles are the only thing keeping the US auto industry alive. Thats about all of the manufacturing base we have left here.

The only reason SUV's are carrying the US auto industry is because those people who don't buy SUV's go and buy Camry's and Accord's and some German cars. But if people stopped buying Chevy and Ford SUV's, they might still buy cars from these US companies.

that's right, American auto companies do not make the best cars. We can argue why, and that they should, etc. But the fact remains that they do not. They do however make the best light trucks, minivans, etc. I don't want to see them implode if people rush to dump light trucks and move towards cars made mostly by Asian manufacturers.

Minivans and light trucks are fine. But some of the stuff they are building now are more than just "light" trucks. They might still use that term, but they are far from light. I don't have a huge problem with SUV's, but I do wish there were not so many. And I don't take any of these people seriously as drivers. I consider them someone who just needs to get out of my way. It is a rare occasion when I see an SUV driver who is actually courteous.

I'm all for cellphones for each ear, the more merrier, it keeps me employed What's really nice is really bad weather and nasty traffic jams, that keeps usage up! As for SUV's keeping America going, I don't know about that. I have a foreign SUV and the coupe. If gas hits $3/gallon and people kept their SUVs for special occasions and bought small cheap commuter cars that would work also. The trouble is there aren't too many great gas mileage commuter cars to be had. I went to to the VW dealer looking for a diesel Jetta (42/49 mpg) and the salesdude said they only get about 2-3 of them per year, the demand is there, people ask for them but non to be had. Ideally the best car for commuting in CA is the Civic GX that uses CNG because you can get a single occupant carpool lane use sticker and CNG is half the price of gasoline, the problem is they don't exactly make a lot of them also. What would be great is the VW Lupo 3L TDI, they call it the 3L because it gets better than 3 liters per 100 kilometers fuel consumption (or close to 100 mpg for us). This would be great strictly as a get to work car and nothing else.
