P0705 and very frustrated!
Here in Alabama we have been in a severe drought until a week ago and I'm guessing this has something to do with my issue. Drove the car to work with no problems and when I tried to crank the car to go home it wouldn't start. All lights work fine. Battery is 2 months old. Finally cranked but stuck in limp mode. Wont go back to Park until I turn it off in Neutral. Then gear shifter moves fine. iCarsoft MBII shows code P0705 (Transmission Range Sensor) but dealer tells me this car doesn't have one. I pulled the Floor Shifter Module, disassembled it, cleaned every pin and board with electrical contact cleaner and canned air, and reassembled it. Car cranked and ran normally for about an hour and then wouldn't crank. I have cleared everything I can possibly clear (including ABS light that was on before I bought it last year). Vehicle showed no codes right before it wouldn't crank this last time. I suspect the Brake Light Sensor but can't find it. It's not at the top of the brake pedal. I've read it doesn't have one but uses a Brake Pressure Sensor. Does anyone know if the sensors on the master cylinder can give the same troubles that a brake light sensor can? Tired of borrowing a vehicle. Please someone help.

After I posted I did a little more research and did find out that the s16/10 connection in the gear shift module is actually the transmission range sensor. I need to make sure there are 12V at the fuse and the connector. Not exactly sure how to do that. I'm hoping the fuse is blown. I also need to check under the passenger floor board and see if my TCM is full of fluid. Drove it last night. Perfect. Cut it off and 10 minutes later, wouldn't crank. Ran DTC and got a SAM not comm with engine. First time that's happened. Still really frustrated. Thank you for replying. I'd appreciate further input.

Not looking for a clairvoyant. Just looking for somebody who may have had the same issue as me and was willing to give good advice. I'm sure I'm not the first person to have this exact problem. You may not be trying to come across as a jerk but you did. I'm sure you can find a better use of your time than policing this site for newbies with dumb questions. If anybody else is out there who can give sound advice, please do. Thanks everyone.

Just saw your post. Yes, they only sell the whole shift unit.
Seems to be that we are all at about the end of life for this part.
Just did mine a few months ago. Common topic on the forum these days.

Guyzoo - I just experiences this p0705 trans range sensor in my 2003 C32. It happened when I put car in 2nd manually and floored entering an on ramp to the expressway and had to pass another car.
The car wouldnt engage the gears and just rev’d so I pulled over and saw the p0705 code. I turned car off and did the “ECU Reset” and the car went into gear and has been driving OK but I still have the pending code for p0705 and thus I’m worried it will come up again and be a confirmed fault.
Did you replace only the trans range sensor and fix your problem????? Car runs perfect right now aside from the pending code which is causing me concern that the issue will come up and require replacing whatever part this is...... thanks in advance and please let me know what part u ordered if you remember???

You need a 'new' ESM which is the whole shifter, though it's typically only the electronics that
are bad, they don't sell just the sensor. New is like $700, so definitely go for a used one.
Get the pn from your local mercedes dealer, call and ask for a quote on the shifter (which from the dealer will be like insane) and then ask for the pn based on your VIN.
Since you can't align it I would recommend replacing the whole shifter. Don't attempt to swap the sensors.
I have a thread here somewhere with instructions from when I went through this.
Don't wait till it fails completely. You will be stuck where ever it decides to die with 2nd gear only.
Here's some sample part numbers (not necessarily correct for your vehicle!! There are different ones,
as I found out, with different connectors)
2032678824
2032672124 , 2032672724 , and 2032674924

C230 - thanks very much for your feedback! I've had 3 weeks with no issue after clearing the P0705 code and just had it come up again last night. The car wouldnt go into park only allowed Neural or Drive for several minutes until I cleared the code and was able to drive the car home and its been driving OK but this part is clearly ready to be replaced.
I checked EPC using my VIN (2003 C32) and it shows Part Number 209-267-02-24 "Floor Type Gear Shift" for my car/VIN.
When I check that Part on genuinemercedesparts.com it indicates that 209-267-02-24 is the old part and has been replaced with NEW part number as 203-267-91-24 for a Floor Shifter.
According to what this MB parts site shows this NEW part number for the floor shifter replaces all these 203-267-54-24, 203-267-61-24, 209-267-02-24 which were cross referenced to the 209-267-02-24 so hopefully this one is plug and play to replace my old shifter.
https://www.genuinemercedesparts.com...nis-2032679124
I checked eBay for the OLD part 209-267-02-24 and there's several sellers with USED ones for over $300 bucks. ebay also has the NEW #203-267-91-24 for sale from several sellers for $600 which is crazy, since you can buy that same NEW part from genuinemercedesparts.com for $500.50 which i've included the link above to.
Am guessing its not worth it to by a used one with the old part number to save $150+ so will probably bite the bullet and get the updated part number #203-267-91-24 and get it from this site for $500 and includes the mercedes parts warranty as well for 24 months.
Will post an update once I get around to fixing this but appreciate your help C230Sport

Not a bad price. Yeah, when I had this problem, people wanted $200 used and up on ebay. I just couldn't justifly paying that much for a used part!
I initially pulled one from a 2003 at Picknpull and the connectors were different, and I didn't have the shift surround
showing what gear I was in, but it worked for a while and then crapped out. I was able to return it for credit, but dammit lost the reciept.
I had to wait a while till a 2002 came up, and I had to go Richmond to get it. Like $35.
Crossing my fingers, it's been working good.
This part is almost always one of the 1st parts to disappear from a vehicle at picknpull.

How difficult was it to do the repair your self? I pulled the shifter trim, leather boot off but haven’t figured out how to rip out the rest of the center console area to be able to then pull out the shifter??
