Seems to be that we are all at about the end of life for this part.
Just did mine a few months ago. Common topic on the forum these days.
The car wouldnt engage the gears and just rev’d so I pulled over and saw the p0705 code. I turned car off and did the “ECU Reset” and the car went into gear and has been driving OK but I still have the pending code for p0705 and thus I’m worried it will come up again and be a confirmed fault.
Did you replace only the trans range sensor and fix your problem????? Car runs perfect right now aside from the pending code which is causing me concern that the issue will come up and require replacing whatever part this is...... thanks in advance and please let me know what part u ordered if you remember???

are bad, they don't sell just the sensor. New is like $700, so definitely go for a used one.
Get the pn from your local mercedes dealer, call and ask for a quote on the shifter (which from the dealer will be like insane) and then ask for the pn based on your VIN.
Since you can't align it I would recommend replacing the whole shifter. Don't attempt to swap the sensors.
I have a thread here somewhere with instructions from when I went through this.
Don't wait till it fails completely. You will be stuck where ever it decides to die with 2nd gear only.
Here's some sample part numbers (not necessarily correct for your vehicle!! There are different ones,
as I found out, with different connectors)
2032678824
2032672124 , 2032672724 , and 2032674924

C230 - thanks very much for your feedback! I've had 3 weeks with no issue after clearing the P0705 code and just had it come up again last night. The car wouldnt go into park only allowed Neural or Drive for several minutes until I cleared the code and was able to drive the car home and its been driving OK but this part is clearly ready to be replaced.
I checked EPC using my VIN (2003 C32) and it shows Part Number 209-267-02-24 "Floor Type Gear Shift" for my car/VIN.
When I check that Part on genuinemercedesparts.com it indicates that 209-267-02-24 is the old part and has been replaced with NEW part number as 203-267-91-24 for a Floor Shifter.
According to what this MB parts site shows this NEW part number for the floor shifter replaces all these 203-267-54-24, 203-267-61-24, 209-267-02-24 which were cross referenced to the 209-267-02-24 so hopefully this one is plug and play to replace my old shifter.

I checked eBay for the OLD part 209-267-02-24 and there's several sellers with USED ones for over $300 bucks. ebay also has the NEW #203-267-91-24 for sale from several sellers for $600 which is crazy, since you can buy that same NEW part from genuinemercedesparts.com for $500.50 which i've included the link above to.
Am guessing its not worth it to by a used one with the old part number to save $150+ so will probably bite the bullet and get the updated part number #203-267-91-24 and get it from this site for $500 and includes the mercedes parts warranty as well for 24 months.
Will post an update once I get around to fixing this but appreciate your help C230Sport

I initially pulled one from a 2003 at Picknpull and the connectors were different, and I didn't have the shift surround
showing what gear I was in, but it worked for a while and then crapped out. I was able to return it for credit, but dammit lost the reciept.
I had to wait a while till a 2002 came up, and I had to go Richmond to get it. Like $35.
Crossing my fingers, it's been working good.
This part is almost always one of the 1st parts to disappear from a vehicle at picknpull.

How difficult was it to do the repair your self? I pulled the shifter trim, leather boot off but haven’t figured out how to rip out the rest of the center console area to be able to then pull out the shifter??

You need to pull the center console, and the shifter and get one thats exact match.
Search my threads and yee shall find.
