With a xenon system, only the low beams are hid's, while the high beams are H7 halogens. In the bi-xenon projector system the same bulb is used for low and high beam. The switch is made by moving a reflector which is in front of the bulb. The bi-xenon system retains the H7 bulbs in the same position in the smaller ovals for the flash to pass lights.

Hoehn Mercedes in Carlsbad, CA offers wholesale prices to the public, no group buy needed. Call their parts department and tell them you saw the ad in Autoweek for wholesale prices.

autoclass sells the old xenon headlights for close to $2000 so i think dealers that sells at wholesale price still not good enough. I think we will be able to around dealer invoice price.

Yes, the halgens are for passing. I don't think turning the xenons on and off will hurt them, but they can't ignite fast enough to be used as passing lights.

another thing to note is that the original halogen high beam will still light up when the Bi-xenon is switch the high beam.

Here's the thing...HID kits have gone down a lot in price recently. For around $1,000 or a bit more I can get an HID kit for the High beams, a set for the low beams and possibly a set for the fog lights (maybe now closer to $1,300). So anything around there just for OEM HIDs I can't really justify. Yes, they will be different lenses, yet I don't know if I like those other lenses anyway.

Just keep us up to date with the pricing.

Wouldn't that mean you will have 6 ballasts just floating around your engine compartment?

Well, not floating, but yeah. They can be hidden quite well when you try. Plus, I have the 1.8 instead of the 2.3 so there must be a ton of extra room in there!

btw: can't use HID's for high beams (standard hi anyhow)... you'd be replacing the H7 bulb which means you'd have no flash to pass.

So what are all the drawbacks of changing the assem? Someone has mentioned you can't adjust the beam (not that its important)...what else is there?

I believe he's saying that because HID lights are very slow to react and turn on that when you flash your brights (usually in an effort to annoy or pass the person in front of you) not much will happen. The bi-xenons get around this by using 1 bulb and a mirror to change modes. Also who knows what will happen if you put HID brights on your car, it may give you bulb failure message on the MFD.
