While i was moving stuff in my car, i realized that my cardboard boxes left a few pieces of garbage in my trunk and even some dirt. Well turns out my car doesnt have a trunk mat. the thing that i have is just the carpet cover for the spare tire. In my other cars, there is at least another carpet layer before this spare tire cover. did you guys get one or is this normal. doesnt seem logical in case an owner wanted to clean the carpet but cant even remove it from the car.

If you are willing to go to a little bit of effort and spend a few bucks, you can do what I did.
I went to Lowes (or maybe Home Depot) and purchased about 5-6 feet of black loop nylon carpeting. Must have cost $15. I then laid it on the garage floor with the trunk mat on top of it. I marked the outline with chalk and cut it out with scissors.
I now have a cheapish but good looking trunk mat cover that can be vacuumed or maybe even hosed off for a minimum cost. So if something gets on it that cannot be removed, I can make another one. And the OE mat will be like new forever.
the mat in the car isnt even a mat. its attached to the freaken car. which is ridiculous. i understand it is just two clips, but its almost unacceptable that it didnt come with a seperate mat

Clips? My car has no clips. The mat is held in place by gravity.Originally Posted by joshg1001

then i guess that answers my question. my car didnt come with a trunk mat. when i open my trunk, i just see a carpeted area with a latch to access the spare tire. think its too late to go after the dealer if i bought the car in october?

i am so confused. so what i have is normal, just a piece of carpet with a latch and attached by two clips in the very back. its non removable.

yes what u got is normal, it should be removable thought so that u can get to ur spare tire, but that carpet/liner is all u get, that is unless u buy or make one urself.Originally Posted by joshg1001

Explorenot immediately removable. the latch you use to get to the spare is suppose to latch onto the rear windshield sill.

correct, so r u saying that u dont have that mat/liner that covers ur spare tire? if u dont then yes u should of got that but if ur talking about a carpet type liner and then ur liner that has that plastic clip then no that an add on feature.Originally Posted by joshg1001

if only there was a way to take a picture of said trunk instead of going around in circles trying to figure out if it is indeed missing anything

If OP can put carboard box inside his trunk, I am pretty sure he has the stock carpet mat in there..
The stock carpet met has a black hook at the end and 2 clips on the other end (near passenger seats) that can be cliped on to the floor of the trunk..
There is no additional liner/mat besides that and that's why anti-slip trunk mat is one of the available accessories..

I got tired of cleaning mine, so I got a Weathertech floor cover for mine. Very easy to vacuum and if anything spills it is easily wiped up. Fits perfect.

The two clips on mine are exactly the same as what holds the front driver floor mats in place. I find them easy to pop on/off. My issue with the cover is that it has to be the slipperiest carpet I have ever had in a car...nothing will stay in place unless tied down.
Anyhow, I need to either buy the thicker/plusher trunk mat or cut some carpet like RLE, and save a few bucks.
RLE- did the extra carpet cut out any road noise?

I have the plastic trunk mat from the dealership i dont have much info on it because someone got it for me but i know it comes out and goes in in a matter of seconds !
Carpet is standard. Rubber overlay is a cheap option from the dealer.

Yeah..I am planning on get a set of rubber overlay for the trunk..may also replace the mats inside the car too..
How good are the weathertech mats? Compare to those rubber mats u find at auto parts supply store or walmart?

Good Idea - thanks RLE.Originally Posted by RLE

Yep, that's what I've got, too (though it is removable, as noted in previous post). My wife just threw an old bedsheet down in there, which is effective, but not attractive. I'm liking RLE's cut-carpet idea and will look into it today. Originally Posted by joshg1001
