blow dryer and really fine fishing string is what I've always used... I left mine on the Benz.. b/c when I removed a small portion there was a def. color change... on my Corvette I just simply used a blow dryer to heat it up then used fishing line to peel it off.. then adhesive remover to get any left over residue.

Best technique is to use a heat gun, dental floss and "Goo Be Gone". First spray the Goo Be Gone on so that I gets behind the strip. Let soak for a minute. Carefully apply heat for until warmed but not so close or hot that you start a fire. Once warm work the floss behind the adhesive under the stripping. Work back and forth like you were flossing teeth. Rewarm as required. Make sure to clean areas right away since the the Goo Be Gone is messy. Took me about 30 minutes total to complete. B cautious not to get everything too hot as floss will just break up or since GBG is petroleum based is start on fire and damage your car. This works well. I did it on my white car with no discoloration at all.

Best to remove the wheel but a short cut is to use a small 3M Command hanging hook. Stick this on your centre cap and pull the cap out using the hook as a grip. Problem is you need 4x 3M Command adhesive strips and you may damage your cap if you pull too hard.

Can somebody post a guide and pics on how to remove the side mirror covers on a W204?
I found a guide in this DYI on how to remove the side mirrors (thanks!) but now I need to know how to remove the side mirror covers. I am replacing the covers with the 2010+ models (only the outer plastic part)

How did you get the headlights open and how did you seal them back. Also did you use a specific type of paint? (High heat, etc). Your lights look sick, I'm jealous. I wanna do this I was actually going to buy after market black housing headlights but if I can DIY that would save me hundreds.

Ok can i use a heat gun to soften the glue then separate and reseal With the same original glue? Without adding any extra kind of glue and there won't be any leaks if it rains?

I have done it to my celica headlights I baked them in the oven and slowly peeled you have to do it one at the time take out the screws and bulbs, then tape up the holes and the lense from any damage. But yes you also can do it with the heat just more time consuming

Okay, so I feel like I should use tampons to ask how to change the sparkplugs on a w204 c300. I've changed dozens in my life. But, in bringing my ride in for its A service at 100K mile tuneup, they quoted me $352 to change sparkplugs. Yes, friggin plugs, 6 of them, for $350. So, unless the dealer is beyond a complete racket, and into criminally insane territory, there has to be something more to changing these out, right? Or is this the price of a 3 pointed star on your hood? I'd guess pop the plastic tupperware engine topper, disconnect the battery, unplug the plug wires and have a go at the plugs, 3 per bank. Dunno the torque to use, maybe the parts guy at the counter would offer?
Also, dealer gave $149 for the engine intake filters. WTF?
Anyway, next up is a check engine light the ***** threw about a month or month and a half ago. I figured it was a thermostat by the way the temp gauge got nervous in the days afterwards. Luckily, it was February in Jersey so little chance of any damage. But now with the weather increasing...... Dealer confirmed it was a thermostat when I brought it in but won't tell me the OBD code. Not sure if Mercedes parses out their codes well enough to tell the location if I could get the code? Anyway, does anyone know where the thermostats are on these things. I reckon like most others there'd be one at the radiator and one at the engine block? But, I've never wrenched on German cars before. Only Swedish, Jap and Amerikan cars. Any tricks to a mercedes thermostat?
