i know this isn't ideal, but will it work alright? i have 19x8.5 on my front tires now, but i'm looking at a new set of wheels and they only have 4 19x9 wheels

A quick check against a couple tires in 235/35/19 on Tire Rack's website says they fit 8"-9.5" wide wheels, so you should be fine. Double check your specific tire to be absolutely sure, but you're good to go IMO.

would you get 4 of the 19x9's now or wait 3 weeks and get the same wheels in 19x8 and 19x9? the vendor is backordered. i have a cracked wheel right now and have to fill up my car with air every morning - i just don't know if that 1" of extra wheel is worth waiting or not.

i would not wait. You are one bump away from something dangerous happening ( god forbid ). Personally, i like wider wheels. My current set up is 19x8.5 19x9.5. Next year I'm trying to run 19x9 19x10 or 19x9.5 19x10

Yeah, big stretch on the 9". I am running 8's up front and 9's at the rear. Just stepped up to 235 front and 265 rear. They fit just right and have just enough rubber overhanging to protect the rims.

i'm just afraid it's gonna look bad with 235 and 19x9 where the wheel is sticking out like a full 1/2"-1" from the tire

Yeah, unless you're into that sort of thing it will look really bad especially compared to the front. I previously had 225 up front and 255 in the rear and I was told by several people that the tyres were too small for the rims. Then after a couple wheels got gutter rash I bit the bullet and went to the next size up. Don't regret it at all.

Personally I would wait for the 8's to arrive and either go with 4 (19 x 8) or 2 (19 x 8) and 2 (19 x 9) with 235 all around on the 8's or 235 up front and 265 on the rear for the staggered setup. IMO.

you'll be fine, I've done it for 3 set ups already. its not a noticeable stretch till you walk up to it. If you are that worried than buy new tires or wait for the wheels.
