new (to me) c300 sport - this forum is great!

New (to me) 2010 c300 sport w/18 amg wheels we picked up as a CPO from a MB dealer here in NOVA. This forum is great - I am already being extra careful with use of my inside door handles, and with the windshield (that I hear loves to crack), and I've already placed clear lamin-x on the fog lights that apparently break, when hot, when you look at them. The only upgrade I've done is to put Philips x-treme vision H7s in the low beams, which are much brighter than the OE. I'm an older guy that has owned a boatload of cars in my life, and while many have been much faster, I LOVE the looks of this little car, especially with the staggered amg 18s.

When I took delivery it ran like a top, but there was a bit of a vague "disconnect" in the throttle response. I've since ran two large bottles of techron through it, and the change that made was amazing - I suppose being a 2010 with low miles it sat in someone's garage a little too much.

I got the extended MB warranty, and I'm going to have it serviced at the stealership, and my only "concern" is that I pray the front transfer case does not go out on me. I've read ****loads of threads and still can't determine if there is any specific driving habits that correlate with a failed transfer case - apparently some folks never get it, and others have more than one go on them. I

I traded in a W163 ML500 for this little gem, and surprisingly, the overall "thrust" feel of both vehicles at launch is similar - I would have thought the C300 would feel much more watered down.

Cheers!

Is yours a 4matic? The transfer case issue affects 4matics only. RWD models don't have a transfer case.

Welcome and Congrats on the new car. I had a 2008 and the only problem I ever had was the rear door lock pin pulling off. Make sure your Transmission service was done properly at 39K miles and you should be fine- its the 4-matics that seem to be randomly problematic. Lamin-x on the foglights is a great help but if used often- the film will eventually develop "burn" marks.
Enjoy the new car.

Welcome aboard! One tip...don't do more than two bottles of Techron without changing the oil. The same attributes which make Techron so helpful (and one of the only such products recommended by MB) do have a deteriorating effect on the motor oil. Two uses is the recommended maximum frequency between oil services.

Tysons - we went to Chantilly first, but their CPO prices were higher, and the only one with the 18 amgs was at Tysons. Although I hate having to go into to the Tysons area for the traffic, it was my second time dealing with them,. and it least for me, it was very smooth and positive.

Thanks - I've heard and read that many times, but for probably the last 15years or so I've been added a small bottle to my vehicles about every month or so, and so far - knock on wood - I've had great UOAs. I've done this with Fords, Nissans, and Infinitis. Granted they don't have the oil change interval of the Benz, but I usually end up pulling most of the Benz oil out, via extractor, at about 5k (midway through), and put in some fresh M10w40. I guess my "seat of the pants" meter is really sensitive, because I swear I can feel (and love) the difference in throttle response when using Techron in a maintenance manner. And I only gas up with premium top tiers like BP, Chevron, and Exxon. I know some folks with a 370Zs that run Techron every other tank full.

Techron does absolutely no harm to engine oil. At excessive concentration it can be mildly harmful to yellow metals in the fuel system. Use as prescribed.

I defer to Glyn based on his established expertise, and now question the prior source of that advice as well. My earlier posting about Techron is withdrawn.

Edit....found the earlier source. Post 7

I have noticed increase in certain metals, including lead, on UOAs when running Techron. If I do run Techron, I run it only once per oil change interval, just before the oil change.

While I was a lurker I learned a boatload of valued info from reading Glyn's posts and opinions - I'm thankful to have access to the braintrust here.

Techron is our product. I've been involved with it since it's inception. I don't advertise my heritage on this forum. I give fair coverage to all oil company products that are honest. That means all the majors with large research budgets. My positive support for Mobil 1 & Shell 236.14 & 236.15 ATF's, Fuchs ATF's & any Benz approved service products are indicative of this.

I like to think that I show zero bias in this regard.

No disagreement here. But what do you think was the basis of the Porsche advice RLE had quoted in the link I found above?

I see no reference to Porsche. I do see reference to Bosch. I would like to see that. A certain gentleman has been known to perpetrate terminological inexactitudes.

Benz uses Bosch & Delphi etc. Benz would be happy with correctly dosed Techron permanently in the fuel.

We have worked side by side with Bosch & others for years & I have never heard any such comment out of any of their engineers.

No problem at all. To err is human. We all make mistakes. I've made my fair share of mistakes here. Usually due to not reading questions thoroughly.
