I'm getting the sound in 60-70 degree weather! I get to work at 9 and then head to lunch two hours later and it screeches again. Its pretty embarassing.

Went to the dealer and they said everything is as normal and basically threw me out the door. I'll try giving them this service bulletin.

Our 2015 C400 started making the very loud screeching sound a week ago here in Massachusetts. The vehicle only has 7,400 miles. We have had the vehicle for 11 months and this is the 1st time it has made the noise. I called the dealer and they are ordering the Shims for the front. As a back-up they are going to order new brake pads just in case the problem remains. Here is a video I made this morning as my wife was leaving our garage. It was 49 degrees Fahrenheit (9.5 degrees Celsius) when I captured the sound. Have any of you had this issue fixed by Mercedes?

Thanks for your time,

Everyone at the dealership (www.mbob.com) is super nice. I just wish we didn't have to see them so often. The service adviser I spoke with this morning is Tim Martino (tim@mbob.com) I sent him the video and mentioned the Service Bulletin mentioned on this forum in October. He seemed aware of the Shim fix. The shims are on order and I'm scheduled to bring the C400 in next Tuesday. Oh, the shims are for the front brakes only. Hopefully this is the problem area.

MBOB fixed my squealing brakes, no questions asked. They haven't made a sound since the fix.

The screeching is not connected with cold wheels because the screeching was evident after a 40 minute commute.

I'm not sure exactly, I believe they replace the pads and use shims to adjust the angle of the pad.

My dealer was unable to duplicate the screeching sound, and thus they did not attempt to fix it. What are my options now? My car still screeches loudly...

Mercedes-Benz of Burlington, MA serviced our 2015 C400 yesterday. I hung out while they performed the service. It took them an hour at most to install what appeared to be 1/16 of an inch shims. I saw the Service Technician remove the front brake pads and glue the shims to each front brake pad and install back on the vehicle. We have driven the car 3 times since yesterday morning with zero screeching. This is a known issue and a Bulletin was created last October. No cost to me.

I will attest to the same issue with mine. Its the cold. When the car sits for a few hours and then driven again I have a squeak everytime, goes away though

I got nothing like in that video, but they do squeal now that its cold (-4 to -10 celsius), but only when I reverse out from my parking spot. On top of some other annoyances as soon as my lease runs out, it is time to take a break from Mercedes for a while after owning now 4 in a row. I am glad this one is company car and not payed (as a whole) from my pocket otherwise I would be really pissed off.

So, since they installed the shims, i havent heard a squeak...until last night but it was brief and not as loud as before. interestingly, though, when i make hard right or left hand turns at low speeds i hear a clicked sound coming from the front wheels though, almost like something is hitting the wheel spokes, hopefully it is just ice build up or something..

I just called my dealer about the brake noise. They found the service bulletin, and my VIN was in the affected group. The shim kit is in order and they will call as soon as it's available, although they do show a current back order situation.

I had the same brake squeal on my 2015 W205. I took it to the dealer and they performed the bulletin mentioned above LI 42.10-P-060688 .

No issues since.

My dealer changed the front rotors, pads, and installed the shims when I took it it. Dead quiet since then. I am assuming mostly due to the shims.

Does anyone know if the shims are glued to the pads? So when I install new pads, will I have to buy another set of shims? Or is there a replacement pad that has the correct angle negating the need for shims?

Is it true that the drilling in the rotors (for non-AMG cars) is, mostly, for show - as opposed to enabling a better braking experience?
