Road Noise/Aftermarket sound deadening

I know from reviews the W205 quieter than W204, but just curious if any owners have found a source of issues that will become a modification/sound deadening project.

For example, I understand several W204 owners located exhaust and tire sound originating from spare tire well and added dynamat (or similar). In the W205 there's no spare tire, but is that tub/holding space covered with sufficient sound material? Other sources of intrusion such as wheel wells? Doors?

The W204 noise prior to the Benz sound deadening kit of late 2008 production had a composite spare well. Dynamat on rear wheel arches & in trunk made a big difference.

Ah cool, I didn't know they made a change in '08. Any idea what the well is like now? Are the wheel wells easy to access from inside? I know comments on the run flat road noise, and it's a delicate balance attenuating sound in one area to notice another, but are there other easy NVH fixes as easy as the dynamat?

Personally, I don't think this car needs any more sound deadening material than it already has. It's not "as quiet as a tomb," but it's already a fairly quiet car with just enough road noise to keep you aware of what's outside.

It's a lot quieter than early W204's which were a lot noisier than W203.

Okay that's it, I give up! I am going to show my ugly newbie status and just ask...what is all the 'W' stuff mean? What is a W204, or W205?

See the forum index. All Benz cars have a W number & some A's C's & S's.

e.g my CLK is a W209.

And model suffixes are the following (like E350W):

W=sedan
C=coupe
A=cabriolet
S=wagon

Yes ~ the A,C & S's are actually subdesignations in the Benz system. The W still predominates.
