Thanks - those are some expensive though but I guess they are performance oriented. $400+ per tire for the rear wheels... Steep!

I may try to find something else in a size that is close, such as Hankook Winter iCept Evo's. I have those on my Acura TL SH-AWD and they are fantastic. Also a performance winter tire - been very impressed - 3rd winter on them and they are very quiet and handle great for a winter.

Interesting article on Car and Driver today. New 2017 SLC models being announce (replacing SLK moniker), and the SLK55 AMG is being replaced with the Mercedes-AMG SLC43, with.....the 3.0 Liter Biturbo 362HP, 384lb-ft ! Same engine as C450 AMG! Soooo, AMG isnt sticking to its One Man/ One Engine tag line.... I think its OK to add AMG badge to the trunk now, if you like. hahaha

^ I am just going to keep my car as is, and throw a OE tune and an exhaust on it.

Not trying to tick off the AMG guys but atleast I can say after the tune I wouldn't get totally blown out by one : )

IMO, debadging these cars whether C450 or C63 is as Charlie Sheen would say, "winning."

I wont add badge either...but it does provide validation that the 3.0 Biturbo is up to AMG snuff...

The production of my car started this week and should end by December 23 rd. however, the factory indicated that the car will only be parked in Germany and ready for transportation on January 4th !! I have no idea why there are 2 weeks lost here.... I can't imagine it's only due to holidays period while I'm waiting like crazy for my car

I don't really care what people think. I stopped caring along time ago. If your lifeline is your car then you may have your priorities out of order.

let's be honest. we all care what other people think. haha
if not, why not just get a honda or toyota, all of them will take you from point A to point B. and you will save a whole bunch of money.

I agree, if you really don't care, and, to each his own, why remove the badge then? Why not just leave the C450 badge on the car?

I'm very happy with my configuration, but there's just one thing that I really wrestled with (and I'm still wrestling with), which is the wheel option.

I REALLY love and want those 19" AMG Split 5-Spoke Black wheels on this car, but I've never had Summer Tires on a car before and I was hesitant to get them this time based on the mixed opinions/facts I've heard about them. While my configuration is still changeable, I figured I'd see if I could get some informed opinions from you guys.

Based on the research I've done on the web, reading through this thread, and talking to people who have experience with them, it seems the main issues with Summer Tires arise from very cold weather (below 0 or 40 degrees), snow/ice, greater potential for blowouts, and also poor tire tread in general for all situations. I'm not crazy about the headache that comes from potentially needing to change them out every single winter. I'm also leasing this car and not crazy about spending the extra money for an extra set of tires that I'll only be using for short period of time, and only twice during my lease.

I live in NJ, where can can sometimes get a decent amount of snow and have some fairly cold winters, but not nearly to the extent of many other places in the country. Also, it's currently 60+ degrees here on the 15th of December. Beyond that, though, the roads in the NJ/NY area pretty rough in some places, with potholes galore. Currently driving a 2014 E350 Coupe with 18" wheels. Haven't had one blowout in 2.5 years, and only once need to replace a tire because I spotted a nail in one. (My W+T Protection hasn't exactly been cost effective, but whatever.)

I've spoken to some people with 19" wheels and summer tires who have had virtually no issues or blowouts in 2-3 years of driving their vehicles, and a couple who don't even bother changing them in winter time and say its fine. I've also spoken to some people who have had multiple blowouts within the first few months of getting their cars and claim that summer tires are absolutely awful in the rain and during the winter time, and that it's absolutely essential to change them out every winter with winter tires or some other kind of tires. In essence, some folks are telling me to steer away from them and others are telling me to go for it.

What I have going for me is that I don't do a crazy amount of driving. I'll have a low-mileage lease and my daily commute to and from work is like 8 miles total, with no need to even get on a highway. But I want to have fun with this car and not always be worried about my wheels/tires, nor do I want to always feel the need to be overly cautious and careful. And of course, who wants the headache of getting stuck and dealing with a bunch of blowouts every year?

My questions to you guys are:

What are your thoughts on the 19" summer tires vs. the 18" all-season tires? Do you think it's worth it and safe to get them? Do you think it's absolutely essential to change them every winter? Or would it be best to simply stick with the 18s?

Also, does anyone know of a set of 19" all-season tires that I could simply throw on the car and leave them on year-round? Maybe something with better tire tread that gives the car a smoother ride, but would still allow me to have the rims I want? (And also not be ridiculously expensive)

Thanks in advance.
Looks like you haven't gotten a straight answer yet so I will tell you, driving during the winter on Summer tires will be a bad idea, on snow and ice you will lose traction and it will be like driving on hockey pucks. Either go for the All Season option or buy a set of Winter Tires that you can then sell after the lease and make some money back on. I would not recommend driving with summer tires on in the North East, doesn't matter how warm it's been since January and Feb are really when the cold hits. Also cold weather will wear down Summer tread very fast so you would be stuck replacing the tires regardless.

TLDR: Get the all season option and if you can't get winter tires. The only other suggestion I could offer is to get a set of All Seasons but the resale on those will be moot compared to reselling Winter tires only used for 2 winters.

We had ordered a GLA, which is made in Bremen. It took at least two weeks from it's build complete date to get on a ship and start its journey to the US. We wound up getting a GLC300 instead, but this was the way it was for the GLA, so what they're telling you sounds about right.

I agree with you. The only thing that makes me a bit skeptical is that I'm (France) at few hundred miles from Germany and was expecting the go to delivery to be a bit more straight forward.

The AMG badge you found is too large. The one of the cover is imo between 5 and 7 cm wide.
Anyone make any progress on finding the AMG badge for the ashtray cover?

So far I couldn't find it. I'm thinking about the badge sticker for the driving wheel. It looks like the closest to the AMG lettrage of the cover but smaller.

Maybe! I can ask my sales person at the dealership if he can find out the part number for the c63's ashtray cover.

Where can we get the driving wheel sticker / badge btw?

Wouldn't your new car be trucked to France from Germany? I would think putting it on a ship wouldn't make sense given where you're from.

From Germany to the US virtually guarantees a boat ride until they figure out how to fly these things where they need to.
