Does the drone occur in top gear around 1600-1800 rpm in top gear going up a slight freeway hill?
So does anyone know if the C450 AMG uses a speaker inside the cabin to increase the exhaust noise? Audi did this on the B8.5 S4 (2013 up). On the B8.5 S4 some people turn off or disconnect the the speaker. Has MB followed through with the same "feature"?
I did not look at the tach. I was at 70 MPH on a flat road. You could hear it at 35 MPH off of the freeway too. It's always there as long as your foot is on the gas. I asked the CA if there was a speaker, but he didn't know. It would be great if I could get rid of it by pulling a fuse or cutting a wire.
Waylon your ride looks great, congrats! Seeing your interior has me considering the cranberry leather again - I've wanted red for my next car for a while, just wasn't a fan of the color as seen on the German website builder, but I really like the color from your pics.
Also, thanks for the thoughts on the dark or light fiber trim guys. Much appreciated!
Viper, just adding my congrats on the car. As so many other have said, the interior is striking. What a wonderful combination with the upholstery and the silver carbon fiber. Very impressive with an already beautiful interior. My concern has been whether this extra sporty version of the C300 would have too firm a ride for me and the missus. But just this afternoon I had the chance to drive the first C450 to arrive in my neck of the woods, and I can safely say that the ride is very comparable to the ride of my Acura Tl. I'm sure the car will receive her stamp of approval so I won't have to wiggle out of the deal I have with the one I have on order. Should be here in a couple weeks . . . I hope! Again, way to go on your new arrival!!!!
Thanks man!
I was gone all weekend and I was dying to come home and drive, when I got home I said "am going out for a ride" and she said "why?" ...it must be a DNA thing with us
Yeah, I agree I think the missus will like comfort mode...but you never know, you might get in the car one day while she is driving and she has it in Sport+ ..the next thing you know you are already down the street
I had one on order but saw this at the dealership and couldn't wait. LOVE IT!
Very nice!
If I had the opportunity to get something close to my build and skip the 3 month wait, I am not sure what I would do... I could seriously see making the same move.
I went up to Michigan for the weekend (I left the C450 at home, I still want to get the paint and upholstery protection applied), so I am pulling in to this parking garage in Ann Arbor in the ML350 with my son-in-law in front of me in his ML, and what do we both spot at the same time coming out of the garage? A black C450... apparently he had just picked it up a day or two ago. We both gave him the thumbs-up and he smiled.
(I figured that it would be funny if that was someone on the board, if that was you, let me know).

"The C450 might have lost two cylinders, but that doesn’t mean it’s lacking in aural drama,
especially in Sport+ mode. Plumb a twin-blown V6
through AMG exhaust technology and you get a higher, piercing power whine,
accompanied by a rat-a-tat-tat crackle on lift off at high revs, like a
military snare drum. The throttle is sharp, the ride on these smooth, twisting
country roads is more than acceptable, and there’s a very large amount of
fun to be had here. The only slight fly in the pudding is the gearbox, which is
a tad reluctant to shift with the instant response we’ve come to expect
from rivals. And if you want to be critical of the noise, it’s aided by the
internal speakers, unlike the C63. I’m not a fan of this artifice, but it is effective."

Weird how the C450 uses internal speakers. Since AMG was able to make the CLA 45 sound amazing for a 2.0L I4 and they did some work on the C450's exhaust etc; I would have expected them not to use any internal speakers.

After a full week in my 450, I am becoming increasingly glad with the options that I have chosen. Especially the cranberry red interior, its a very unique red color in combination with the quality of MB leather that sets it apart from the red interiors of say, BMW and Audis.
Has anyone gotten a recent lease quote? I emailed my dealer with a few builds i've been looking at, a C300 and a 450. He sent me back the info and to bullet point it:
C300 - 57k adj cap cost
62% residual
MF 0.00205 down to 0.00135 with security deposits.
C450 - 65k adj cap cost
58% residual
MF 0.0030(!) reduced down to 0.0023 with security deposits.
The 450 rates seem horrible to me. Are they really this bad?

Yes they are..unfortunately, that's I opted to finance mine 48mo
If you don't plan to lease you can get a decent deal on the purchase of one. I got mine with everything but the multimedia package and Designo and driving/parking assist for 53K and financing 48mo after plunking down 8k at signing.

The 58% residual is a bit lower than those of competitors (61% for Audi S5, for example). The MF is where MB really screws people. I was quoted 0.0024 MF and, after they ran my credit, 0.0022. The dealer claims MB alone determines the MF, there is not a lot of fat in them. Not sure I quite believe that.
At any rate, leasing any AMG-badged MB vehicle is bad financial news. The only possible light in the proverbial tunnel is that, with the residual so low, you might have more equity in the vehicle at turn in that you could use against a new one.
I finally found this forum where we discuss the beautfiul 450 AMG C class.
I currently have an A5 sportback V6 3.2 and looking for the replacement after 5 years. The A5 is very difficult to replace as it is a fantastic car.
I have the following quesitons for you guys:
- Is the engine signed by the AMG single builder as for the C63 models? I have contradictory info on this: the seller told me no but I found pictures on the web with signed engine of C450
- The exhaust sound looks great in the videos. Some people here said there are speakers in the car to augment the sound? are you sure about this? Is this like the sound actuator in the Audi V6 Diesel cars?
- Start and stop is defaulted to NO when selecting the sport setting which is great ! But can we default the sport (sport+) setting itself?

Thanks,
1. No. The C450 is a Mercedes-Benz AMG Sport (Similar to the BMW M sport), and it's not a Mercedes-AMG so it doesn't have a hand built engine. Instead it has a normal Mercedes-Benz engine which was in the C400, and was slightly tuned.
2. Don't know much about this topic other then the link posted not long ago.
3. Sadly no since for some reason MB doesn't allow their cars to start in any other mode then comfort or economy (depending on the car), so no the car doesn't default to sport or sport+ mode when turning it on. You'll have to change it yourself from Comfort or economy mode to whichever mode you'd like.

I'll try and check on it. Thanks for the research.

Great thread! I’ve been following along for a little over a month now, as I’ve been searching daily for any tidbit of information I could get on this car. I’ve been surprised at just how little google has returned. But this thread has been a fantastic source.
Many thanks to iwokforwine, vipershade and tmoneyc450amg for posting pics and sharing your experience with your new C450s! I’m sure there have been many others, like me, who have enjoyed seeing the posts and have been taking notes.
What initially caught my eye about this car was the beautiful interior! I was blown away when I first saw it. It's still the biggest differentiator (for me) as I compare this car to it's competitors. I also really like the color of the cranberry red. It’s not too bright, or too brown, like the interiors that I've seen in BMWs. I especially liked the textured look that the perforations gave the seats on the C400 that I saw at the dealership. My first question is - are the seats on the C450 perforated like the ones I saw on the C400? I've read on this forum that the ventilation is not available as advertised on the MBUSA builder. The builder also shows perforated seats, but I'm now curious as to whether this is indeed the case. I'm not seeing the perforations in the picture you posted. I'm hoping it's just due to the resolution and not that perforated leather only comes with ventilated seats.
As for interior scheme; with the C450, I'm now torn between the black w/red stitching leather and carbon fiber trim or the cranberry leather with natural grain black ash that you have. I have yet to actually see the carbon fiber in person, though. Either way, I like the perforated look shown on the MBUSA builder. I'm hoping that I can still get that.

This is my first time posting on MBWORLD. I currently drive a 2012 BMW 328i (fully loaded, I've enjoyed it) that is coming off lease soon. I'm either going to go for a 340i or C450 this time around.
I see people talking about this car leasing for $9XX/mo. Is that not insane for a $60k car? The rule of thumb I'm used to is about 1%/mo of the MSRP for a lease with no down payment (aside from drive-off fees). Curious to hear your thoughts and if anyone here has leased one of these.
Thanks!
My experience is that BMW leases can't be beat and since I lease I buy BMW's. You can lease an M3/M4 for far less than $900 a month. The C450 AMG is great looking car with great specs but if you're shopping price then it won't compete with BMW. Plus it's new and you wont get much off MSRP. You might also wait until December when more C450's are around & incentives are better.

This color interior is gorgeous !! Great choice. I would get this color for sure.
Possibly. I don't plan on too many mods but if Akrapovic comes out with a system that really intrigues me, I just might.
Yeah, my thoughts as well. I will not be looking for more power, but I would welcome a nice looking exhaust, deep and refine sound but no drone. I'm hopeful Akra or Eisenmann will come out with one soon
Thanks Kuba for the infos
I didn't see the link explaining the exhaust system but will look twice,
Did anyone try the AMG optional steering wheel? It is a mix of leather and another material. It looks thicker than the default wheel that come with the C450. I'm also wondering if the paddles are bigger with this option.
I'm also wondering how sporty is the the 7 speedshift+ as I'm now used to the great Stronic dual clutch in the Audi.
