Can I negotiate price on an ordered car?
Getting close to buying a C300 and it looks like I will have to order it to get the options I want (even before we get to avoiding the option I don't want). This would be my first European car (though assembled in the US) and the first car I will have not bought off the lot, so I am wondering, should I expect to be able to negotiate the price down from MSRP (or invoice for that matter)?
Clearly when buying a car off the lot the dealer has increased incentive to move it, but if I understand manufacturer / dealer relationship properly there should still be negotiating room on an order car as well.
Thanks

I'm from Mass also, and I too was able to negotiate a lower price for my ordered 2015 C300 Sport (June delivery)...but I ordered my new car when the market trend was at a low (end of March according to TrueCar). I've heard/read that Mercedes has taken money off the table recently since sales of the C300 have picked up.
Just to give you a ball park figure of the deal I was able to negotiate, I got $7,405 (about 13%) off the sticker price of $56,135, and $3,000 more for my trade than Tulley BMW offered for my vehicle...which I'm allowed to drive until my new vehicle shows up. What I'm hoping for at this point is a low interest rate special in June when I take delivery.

Negotiated in NJ
I negotiated a good deal too. Don't forget,
- there is a 3% dealer hold back for the manufacturer to compensate the dealer for interest and expense whilst an auto was on their lot. For a new order, that expense does not exist -- so go for it.
- Also, you may qualify for a fleet discount -- some based on profession, some based on airline affinity programs, some based on insurance company ...
- then, there are some services on the internet that tell you average purchase price based on options you select
- I negotiated some of the add ons at either dealer cost or as a throw-in. There was no way I was paying $140 for floor mats (dealer through that in); dealer through in a third key (we tend to lose one every few years ); wheel locks at more $100 - no way.
- wanted a different paint color -- paid the dealer cost rather than the list price.
The fleet and the 3% were thousands of dollars. The other small items represented a few hundred dollars -- but every little bit helps (and sets the tone).
Getting comparable prices from other dealers and friends and colleagues the purchased was the best way to knock real dollars off the cost.

Adding to the responses above, be aware that mbusa is holding back rebates according to the IM at my dealership (mb of san jose), the reason he gave is that cars are selling well on their own and mb is taking advantage of recent positive reviews and named best new car by somebody. Anyways, I still feel it is possible to get at least 8k off on an ordered vehicle. I just took delivery last week I got 8.5k off msrp for my order (~70 days of waiting) for west coast sf bay area.

Great, I will negotiate w/o fear then :-). Sounds like some you did quite a bit better than I was thinking possible. Maybe I will start with the low end of the TRUECar "great price" range.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to know what kind of deals people are getting on orders right now? I just ordered a MY 2016 C300 4MATIC with a $60,265 MSRP and could only negotiate a $5500 discount. I'm in the Bay Area. Thanks.

Wow! 60K+ for a C300 you must have checked off every option. Mine was just under 54K and I got a total of $7500 off in March when I ordered.

$7500 is very good- where are you located? The dealers in the Bay Area are offering $5500 and $6500 off of MSRP, plus any dealer cash that's available when the car is here- I can't seem to get better than that. I have a better discount/offer now from a different dealership ($1000 more) after already ordering (only two days later), so not sure what to do. Are you guys getting $7500 and $8500 off, plus dealer cash at delivery?
