2017 SL450?? Why not SL43....MB is very very confused in their nomenclature. I already find it a PITA explaining what a C450 is to people

I'm surprised that they are not changing the naming conventions for the SL (i.e. the third letter should match the car that it is equivalent to - C, E, S, etc.)...

I think the 450 is the base offering for the SL?
If so, it makes no sense to have the base model be an AMG, and have no non-AMG offerings for a non-supercar.

Just goes to show that this is all marketing stuff anyway outside of what used to be the true "AMG" cars. Either way, more use of the same power plants and such should leave to more ongoing improvements as the investment gets spread along multiple lines. Good for those that want to see the cars do well....bad for those who hate to see something better than they have.

Maybe they aren't changing the c450 sedan either after all..has there been any official statement about the c450 yet? Only the coupe... Maybe they are waiting for the refresh as an 2018?

Not official to the public as far as I've seen, but some press has reported it and dealers seem to have heard as well. The SL450 isn't an AMG Sport line, so the name still works (just as the C300 and C400) work. Since AMG Sport is going away, still seems very likely the C sedan gets renamed, so MB can put the AMG Sport line to bed.

IMO, they should have stuck to the AMG Sport line and not dilute the AMG class but I can understand that Merc is desperate for sales since Lexus and BMW has surpassed it in the recent years.

Very misleading since Lexus just passed Mercedes last year in the U.S. by a few thousand units. First time since 2011 I believe. BMW cheats to win sales races so I don't see anyone passing them.

Absolutely misleading. BMW's been using that funny math for years, in that they know their US registrations are down, so they point to some other US sales number that they pull outta their rear ends.

Not to mention, has anyone driven our latest offerings from BMW? Less Ultimate Driving Machine (UDM) and more long distance cruiser, aka, Mercedes? So ultimate we need to change who we are to attract more mainstream buyers? Makes total sense.

Oh, notice how all auto evaluators that have tested the older UDM Bimmers (pre 2008 maybe) have said firmly that "The King is Dead?" That would be the vaunted 3-series, which still can't outhandle any GM Alpha platform cars (ATS and Camaro, imagine that!) or a new Jaguar XE.............let alone a Lexus IS F-sport. The wanna-be-Merc theme has also spread to other models. Sadly. But sales are up! Allegedly.

Lexus? No beef with their numbers; their record speaks for itself. And as Japanese and not German, they're not willing to cheat for country-wide bragging rights. They're already dusting Acura & Infiniti quite easily.

Don't believe me? Funny math chart attached, minus MB counting US Sprinter sales. Nice try, BMW.

Call it an AMG Sportline or call it a C450 or a 43.....doesn't matter. 'Cause after parting ways with an 09 C63, I can tell you it's still not a true AMG, but more like an Audi S model or BMW xDrive M-Sport model, if not more along the lines of the late 2000s BMW 335is. Not quite an M3, but damn good four about 10-12-15K less in base price.

Emphasis on damn good, which properly describes the C450/43 or whatever the hell we wanna call it. I love mine, that's for sure. Okay, okay, I dearly miss the 6.2 V-8!! But not that much.

I can see how BMW gets their sales but lower reg numbers. Independent dealers probably still think that BMW is the more appealing and better seller and therefore stock up their inventories with low optioned 3-series thinking they can sell to any unknowing chump who just wants to drive around town with a badge

Why do you all care about the whole amg sport line so much? The only difference is that the motor was built by hand by "one man" you all act like they are the most perfectly built motor. They still blow just like any motor out there. I love my c450amg and would never trade it. I've driven the older model c63 and it's just a hair of in peformAnce. The awd system has to be one of the best I've ever driven similar to Porsche and audis. The body suspension braking are all the same. The c450 amg actually out peforms in many track categories. Basically what I'm saying is shut the hell up and enjoy the car and if you don't own one shut the hell up. I was going to purchase a e63 but instead drove this and was utterly impressed. That's why I chose this vehicle I have owned many performance cars and this by far has me intrigued. With some boltons and tune I'll be in the 500+ hp category with awd. Beast!

Well i'm a new C450 owner and after a few weeks with the car, I gotta say I really like it! However I'm a little pissed that after only a year Mercedes decided to kill the 450 line, honestly it makes no sense that they released a 400 last year, a 450 this year, and now a 43 this coming year. Not cool IMO! Someone up there really needs to make up their mind because now its getting a little out of control that after only a year your car is basically outdated and discontinued.

It's a little more than badging from what I'm reading and what I was told at the NY Auto Show. The new 9 speed transmission will be on board, as will a few other small key features.

That is exactly how i feel! Alot of people here don't understand why but you feel it more when you're purchasing rather than leasing. Although, I got mine in Sept before there were any news out on the C43 so I was completely blindsided by it.

There aren't many changes they have talked about a higher tune but that's achievable by and tune shop. As far as the 9g I heard that won't go in the c43 it's obviously not in the coupe so why would they add it the sedan. I like the 7g I have no complaints what so ever. I bet you very little will change and lol iu have to do is rebadge it.

Coupe has 9g, and so will the sedan. And honestly it will have some more horses, it will have some key things badge wise like a new AMG grill, and those new AMG 43 style rims are pretty sweet. I won't rebadge my car, just not my thing because after all it's not a C43, its a C450. I'd rather take the badges off, bring the car in and get my ECU upgraded and sneak up on a few people here and there...lol

What I'm pissed about is that Benz just doesn't care anymore, they went through 3 name changes in 3 years...That's a little crazy IMO.

I still love the car, but I'm gonna get a little pissed when I see the 43 in person...lol
