Diamond Silver
Quote: Curious...since I'm relatively new to MB (a convert from Audi and my current S5). Although I'm just about set to go in the direction of Obsidian black metallic for a C43...I happened to see on the road recently an S coupe in what I think was Diamond Silver metallic..Surprising when I looked at the inventory at two dealers for ANY MB in this color...none to be found - in over 300 cars . Am I missing something here...or is it that unpopular? Looked incredibly good and very rich on the S coupe (assuming it was Diamond Silver metallic)

I have Diamond Silver C350 and love it . It may not be common, but I get many complements . Its a nice change to the regular silvers and greys .

My diamond silver picks up compliments all the time. In a neighborhood where a white c300 is the official mascot, it totally stand out. Night pack is necessary though.

My guy said he was told Septmeber builds were the first that could secure them, but he said he didn't have any specifics and didn't even know the cause for the shortage.

I told him just to take it off of mine because I didn't want to take the risk of MB holding it up waiting for HUDs to show up.

Any idea how bad of a hit you're going to take yet? Or is the dealer telling you not to worry about the value yet? Hopefully you can sweep your car's issues under the rug. I hope you have better luck with the next one.

Yea he warned me that the car drops like 20% as soon as it gets driven off the lot...so if it had a 62k msrp.. What do you think it will be worth in October when the new one arrives? I'm guessing between 45-48k with about 6000 miles... I think the c43 will msrp at 68k...What you guys think?

There were a couple of earthquakes in Japan earlier this year that damaged the factory where the HUD parts are sourced.

I've heard December is the earliest they will be available. It used to be August (which was indicated in the early May revision of the DOG). Then it became September, and so on. I saw a comment for a 2017 S65 AMG being able to order the HUD for August, so the availability story may be getting better, or Mercedes is prioritizing the higher end first, or perhaps both.

I also removed the HUD from my order, but I plan to keep asking if it can be added back before it's actually in production.

Ditto. I told him the same reason, and also told him that I'd be following the same strategy up until production.

I wonder how broad the supply chain is for these units? It's possible that there are only a couple of factories that supply OEM HUDs for multiple auto manufacturers.

Interesting...

HUD is meh...I rather watch the road than have a tiny projection getting in my way of driving. Not worth the wait.

It looks like Nippon Seiki and Yazaki corporations are the market leaders for HUD tech. They supply most of the global OEMs. Both companies are global. However, if either of these companies had centralized manufacture of these units (which is likely) then a single event leading to an extended plant shutdown could disrupt the global supply chain for this tech.

Most pilots that use it would disagree with your comment about it "getting in the way". Multiple studies have proven that feeding data via a HUD is much less distracting than relying on traditional instrument clusters.

Whether or not it's necessary, or even desirable for a passenger vehicle is definitely debatable. But the technology has proven itself to aid in driver/pilot awareness and reaction time.

HUD is one of those features you didn't know you need, until you experience it. This is the first car I've owned with HUD, and now, I would never buy another car without HUD. The ability to see your speed, RPMs, etc, whilst keeping your eyes straight ahead is worth it for me. It's especially useful whenever I'm using the navigation and have a route active

The HUD is easily at the top of the list of features on my car. Speed and speed limit together without having to take your eyes off the road for $990... no brainer... Tell me again what what instrument panel gauge has speed limit info?

Sweet, thanks Viper. Does that mean pricing for the options should be out soon as well? Now that I'm blindly ordered I'm wondering how much I just spent haha.

I think "blindly ordered I'm wondering how much I just spent" is the business model

...yeah, I would expect that the other pricing should be available soon.

I wonder why the C43 coupe-markup is higher than both the C63 and C63S coupe-markups? (C63 seems like the sweet spot at $1800 above the sedan).

Anyone know the percentage of depreciation on a trade in for a c450 to a c43? What can I expect to lose off msrp? Msrp of my c450 was 62k... What do people expect as a trade in? Any ideas what's reasonable?
