Chalk it up to poor customer service and poor execution.

It is a terrible shame that it has worked out like that, but move on. Good luck with the Tesla!

Mid level Model S Tesla is the same price point as a MB S550. Not the same league as a C300.

I am in a similar situation, I got codes for misfire on first cylinder. First dealer I had it towed said it was nothing, cold weather, etc. Third time, I had it towed to my dealer, turns out a piece of the spark plug broke, they removed the piece, but it also too a chunk of the piston and compression was very bad. So they told the engine is on backorder, they would replace it with a new engine covered under warranty. But they can't give me an estimate, although I have a loaner, I am not to convinced about the solution. How will it affect value?

Read the threads, what a hassle. Mine has been at the dealer since Feb 12th. Engine on back-order, not eta on when I will get my car back. I will want something in writing that they will take my car as trade-in for normal value - I am planning on trading in the C300 when I get the C43 AMG coupe. Incidentally, our CLA is in awesome condition, and still looks very nice. As long as my wife is happy with it we will keep it.

WOW, a cylinder miss and they claimed it was nothing! I think you should post that dealer's info here for all to see. They should be ashamed of this. It's not common but it's also not exceedingly rare for plugs to break. Had they properly investigated, they may have discovered this before the engine was severely damaged. Modern engines don't miss due to cold weather, unless you're talking about subzero temps.

Jeamouse,

Was yours the wrist pin/piston issue? or a combo of engine issue like cylinder misfire? Was the dealer able to fix the wrist pin issue according to the TSB or they fixed it but problem persist or got worst. What was the key points that got them to approve the buyback? Other members including myself are having issue with this not much luck with MBUSA. Calling them is a joke sometimes because while they listen to your complaints you dont know what they typed or recorded down, for all you know they may just enter 'wrist pin issue' and not a single of your concerns/complaints.
thanks

Yep, they said they drove the car and there was nothing wrong. Pleasenton, CA
I picked it up and it was working, but I could feel a little shudder at idle. It drove fine for a while, but I made another appointment to my original dealer. I was going to drive when it happened again, was in limp mode when the tow truck arrived. It's been there since.

20 days today since I drove my car

I am really concerned about he re-sale value, hope we can start the c43 negotiation and leverage this incident to my advantage (I don't want to do the buy back, unless it breaks down again). that is a lot of days without my car, the loaner is a decent, but not sport.

I miss my car;
