Reliability 2018 C300
Just bought a beautiful 2018 CPO C300 convertible with 5000 miles. The car is great thus far (expect of the noisy AIRCAP what I am getting fixed). I am potentially planning to keep this car for a long time and wondering what your experiences are with the reliability of these cars. The last C class I owned was in 2004 and at that time these were great cars.

I think you'll find there are issues, just like any other vehicle, but overall this model is fairly reliable now. I have about 70,000 miles on my 2016 and the only issues i've had are a failed EGR valve and a failed auxiliary battery. The EGR was covered under my extended warranty. I've never even changed my original brake rotors, just the pads.

Just remember the C300 is the european taxi cab of choice. They are reliable, easy to repair, lost of aftermarket support. Expect a long service life.
Also, when it comes to service, here's a few things I've learned:
Service A is an oil change and anyone can do it
Service B is an oil change and brake fluid change and any shop can do it
If you like your dealer and they give you a deal, great. If not, find a good independent.

Just did my Service B. The Dealer quoted me $700...$700 dollars!!! I asked him to explain the cost and he really struggled to justify it. I went to and independent shop that specializes in German cars. He obviously was familiar with MB Service B maintenance and performed exactly what the MB website defines as Service B maintenance. It cost me $225. He said most people pay the dealer because they think you have to go to a dealership. I only go to the dealer for warranty work.

Thank you all. I think we have to differentiate with the EU taxis. Is true that majority of the taxis (eg in Germany) are mercedes but they don't drive the gas version they drive the diesel. The old E300 Diesel would go over 1mio miles without bigger issues. At that time Mercedes was still a solid company with solid and simple technology. These days everything is over engineered. I am still very happy and excited about my car, hope it can go over 100k miles without bigger cost. I am surprised there are so many bad reports in the journals and consumer magazines about the C class.
Good information regarding the service. I thought you have to go always to a dealership to maintain your warranty. If you can go to any indy shop, that is great!!

I got a maintenance package of a B an A and a B, which will include transmission flush and change of spark plugs, for $1500. For a previous Mercedes I got a local independent quote for a B service of $500. One advantage of using the dealer is they are able to update your computer at the same time as the service. I was stationed in Germany 1969 to 1972, and was amazed that all the taxis were Mercedes and diesel. I liked the concept, and my first three new Mercedes when I got back were diesels. I used #2 heating oil for all three of these. Hopefully the statute has run.

You can also look into an extended warranty for when your CPO warranty ends. I have a '15 with warranty until April 2022. The warranty can be purchased from any dealership.

This is what I am doing. There are few good people recommended by the members here. I can extend my warranty for 2 years for 2100. Will do it next week.

Having a comprehensive Mercedes warranty for 4 full years from my date of purchase is a lot of peace of mind, and at that price a no-brainer.

Its worth it. I bought mine last Labor Day weekend and bought a 2 year extended warranty with unlimited mileage for $1,700. The original warranty still had a year left then the CPO one year warranty starts and when the CPO one year ends the 2 year extended warranty kicks in.
Having a comprehensive Mercedes warranty for 4 full years from my date of purchase is a lot of peace of mind, and at that price a no-brainer.

I bought the warranty where I bought the car: Simonson Mercedes-Benz of Santa Monica, CA. Marc Rose the Finance Manager handled it. I'm not sure if it is more negotiable when buying right at point of sale or not and I paid all cash, no financing.

There is literally no vehicle made that you wouldn't find the same threads in their forum, I wouldn't let it worry you. That said, as sophisticated as vehicles are today I dont keep anything very long once its out of warranty. Buy your extended warranty and enjoy the car, you didn't make a bad decision.
