Yes that is most likely your 360 camera activating when you are coming to a stop. The camera only works at speeds less than 10 MPH.

yes - this is normal. You will also hear it when seats are folded down.

yes - the backup camera is under a little trapdoor in the trunk, occasionally I’ve noticed under certain conditions the 365 camera will activate while in traffic at or a light, causing the rear camera to pop out.
I have the same issue and it drives me nuts. I left my 2024 GLE 350 at the dealer all day for them to confirm the camera comes out at low speeds and that Mercedes says it’s supposed to do that. Not a fan and hope they come up with a fix.
I have a 2024 GLA 250 and the rear camera popping out affects this model too. I contacted the dealer and got the same spiel as everyone else in this thread, it’s normal behaviour. Normal or not it is very annoying to hear this noise every time you slow down. The service manager actually said just turn up the radio volume… give me a break. I’ll be contacting MB directly to voice my concern.

I think that’s the auto park system showing an available parking space. The arrow indicates which side it’s on.
if you go to the manual, it tells you it deploy for calibartion purposes sometimes. WIS document indicate the same. AFAIK it does not use the raer camera for seraching for parking spot, it use ultrasonic and side camera exclusively, though it might deploy when ultrasonic sense very close obstacle to show you the small 360 image preview on your mbux screen as you are pulling away from a stop.
Unfortunately no, sometimes I leave more space between cars in front of me so it doesn’t trigger. Inevitably it still happens all the time.
i see other MBs with their cameras popped out all the time too driving on the road. If the seats are down in the back you can hear the camera all the time popping out.
Just purchased a GLE 350 with all options. Beautiful vehicle for my wife. But the camera issue has to be addressed. Found out it is an issue on GLE 350 and 450's. IF you do drive below 18mph for a quarter mile it will calibrate the camera and will not be an issue for that time only. Next time you drive your vehicle the issue will be back. We can't leave our street going below 18mph. Really... Everything else about the car is great so far.
We were told to call Mercedes USA main number and log a complaint. Once they see how many customers are upset, they will work on a solution. Don't think it does not matter. Do CALL.

My 2024 C43 does the same. I’ve reported it however sadly I don’t think Mercedes Benz have any interest or intention of fixing what either is a bug or design flaw. There are reports in forums of this “feature” happening in many models going back to 2022.
I paid a garage to install some acoustic dampening material in my cars trunk lid. This has reduced the noise a little but not significantly.
It’s a very poor reflection of MB care for their customers

The change is uncalled for, the previous model years never had users complaining about calibration issue why did they implement this?
If it helps, this message appears to be included in the operators manual of the 2025 GLC in the Driving and driving safety systems. So its a known thing for Mercedes.
The rear-view camera may retract and extend automatically for calibration purposes, even if no camera image appears on the display.

That we know but it wasn't necessary though. Never had an issue with calibration before the change with older MB models.
