Alcantara Steering Wheel, where to buy?

Hello,

My cls63 alcantara STW is getting pretty well worn. It's really the only major flaw on this car that I picked up preowned.

Anyone know where to get a replacement? I've seen posts in the past, but wondering if anyone bought one from one of these guys.

Also considering maybe just getting a leather wrapped wheel since Alcantara might just get worn again. Then again, maybe previous owner had sweaty palms. I don't.

Maybe you can get the '09 steering wheel. I though i saw a post about someone upgrading their steering wheel. It looks a little sportier.

Give DCT Motorsports a call or PM...they can do pretty much what you want on your steering wheel...

I looked on their website, but it did not seem that they had CLS63 steering wheels, only wheels for cars without paddle shifters. I'll ask them. Thanks.

OK,

I'm going to order a custom steering wheel from DCT motorsports. I will post pics when I get it.

Dealer wants $2600 and change, with tax close to $3000, and its the same wheel nothing too exciting. With DCTMS I get the wheel the way I want for 1/3 the price if I give them my old one.

Well, if you want the P30 steering wheel, Fletcher Jones in Newport Beach has one. I had originally ordered one, then made clear to everyone I cancelled the order (and they admit that), but it came in anyway. I ordered one from DCTMS. So, if you want an OEM one they have it in stock. I feel bad that happened, but someone will probably buy it.

The alcantara wheel is $2699,with tax about $3000.

DCTMS will make you whatever you want.

They can make the P30 wheel. I asked him how much for one that matches my P30 wheel, and I believe he said $450 with core exchange (you send them your old one, otherwise $600 more).

I decided to have one made that has more aggressive sport styling, thicker, but also with the perforated Alcantara wrapped at the 9 and 3 position like our OEM wheels have. That one is $947 shipped (tax, shipping, everything) with core exchange (I send my old wheel to them).

Anyway, I haven't seen any of their wheels in person, I'm doing this on faith, sight unseen. I'll post pics when I get it.

Dumb question but,....

are we assuming your car is out of warranty? Dealer replaced my peeling one on my SL55 PP under warranty.

I'm still under warranty. Peeling might be a different story. My wheel is intact. The Alcantara has just worn on the sides, as they all will do eventually. I did ask about warranty coverage, and I was told it is a wear and tear issue not covered by warranty.

Keep asking.

Exactly the same as mine. The "suede" portion was beginning to come off on the corners, down to where the yellow adhesive was just about to show through. $100k cars shouldn't have parts that "wear out" in that period of time. Brakes are one thing, steering wheels are another.
Tell your SA you want to talk to your MB region guy next time he's in the dealership. I wouldn't let up on that. It would be different if it cost $200 to replace it on my own.

allen, sounds like yours was worse than mine. From what I've read, these alcantara wheels always wear out on all the makes, porsche, BMW, MB, so it's surprising that they did cover it. My dealer just said, no it's wear and tear. Nice to see they covered it. I already ordered a custom wheel, so I'm committed to that.

cmergonoto, you should just contact them and see if they can make what you want.

Ok, here are two pics of the wheel installed. I think this is a good option over buying a new wheel for $3000 from the dealer. Plus, it looks better.

I don't know if you can tell from the pics, but this wheel is quite a bit thicker than stock, with deeper, more exaggerated thumb rests, and the paddle shifters are on there. It's an OEM '63 Wheel re-wrapped.

Anyway, $947 which included tax and shipping. I had the dealer install it, as I was going there anyway for check engine light and new cup holder. They charged $223 to install, but independent shops are probably much cheaper.

If I had the dealer install the new Mercedes CLS63 P30 wheel, including tax and installation, it would have been around $3200.

Was the install pretty straight forward with no problems? Hows the quality? Im thinking about getting a new wheel, do you recommend going through them?

I also must mention, that price included the core exchange ( I have to send my old one), otherwise it's higher. Someone is going to get my old one. The paddles on my old one are loose. That can probably be tightened. Give a little, get a little. I have someone's old wheel, and someone else will get mine. Pay it forward??

The quality of the work is good. The leather is good quality. The alcantara is different, however. It's lighter in color, and the perforations are smaller. It still looks really good to me, and I was concerned because I was buying this sight unseen. Actually, my SA at the dealer said "it's beautiful". He's probably blowing smoke up my ***, but he's the one that ordered me the OEM MB P30 wheel from Germany, which I subsequently canceled. You just need to know the alcantara is not going to match the original one. You can probably tell that from the pics. You can't see the perforations in the pics, but they are there. They are small.

The guy that got his CLS55 wrecked by the van, should pull his steering wheel off, though, I'm realizing those things are worth money.

I must admit, I bought gloves. That should help the Alcantara last longer, but I probably look like a mafia guy driving down the street in this black beast wearing black gloves.

I think for me, it worked out. I'm just wondering if I should have gone with a flat bottom, like the black series. You can do that.

Oh, and I figure the install was straight forward. There are no problems on that end. All buttons work, ipod works (that's a whole other story), horn works.

I took the car in for a check engine light this morning (was a camshaft sensor), cup holder peeling, and the steering wheel swap. Three things. They did all things today, one day.

I heard it only takes about one hour to swap the wheel, unless you trigger the airbag sensor in the process, then you need an MB computer to reset the sensor.
