I received the exact same message checking it just before and after my 10,000 mile service… so I’m assuming this is normal. Engine temp seem to be normal as well. I haven’t had a chance to ask my service consultant just to be sure. I’m so lazy. :p

This is why my breakin process is really ment only for enthusiasts and MB builds in a high tolerence in the ECU for those who abuse the engine and don't add oil when required.

I had the same thought North - are these guys for real!!!!!
The car tells you that your hand-built AMG V8 is down a quart of oil....... hhmmmm, what should I do?? I say risk it all over a $5 quart of oil - keep driving, ignore the message. NOT.

I agree that you should add the oil if the computer says you should.
However, shouldn't the computer alert you to an "error" if the motor really was low on oil (like a smart computer should)? Or do you really have to check the oil level regularly yourself?
Another question: When you do check the oil level manually, what happens at the end? Do you get a message like "oil level is OK" or something like that?
Whenever I do it, it just hangs for a long time, without ever confirming for me that things are OK or not.

I usually check mine after I get gas>>>>>

The center display, without user input, should give you the low oil warning beginning at 1 quart low.
When initiating a check - my display will advise 'Oil Level Okay' or advise if low also. If the correct amount of time has not passed since engine shut-off, I get a message that advises me to wait and try again.

well my thinking was that my oil level was somewhere in between the max level and the low oil level...which would be fine
and i didn't get an low oil level warning or anything, i was just curious and wanted to check out the oil level detection function
but i guess i'll add a quart just to be careful

the 5.5L AMG V8 is a High Pro motor that likes to be filled with oil at all times.
My advice is keep it happy and add oil when needed.
enjoy your ride>>>>

I'm definitely not going to assume my dealer knows what they are doing anymore after this one. My trust to them has been lost. I’m going to stop by my dealer during work tomorrow. Thanks for the pressure guys... I needed this wakeup call.
