This way we'll see if haterism or if fraud is involved.Dyno will prove what's what! I'm anxious to see this! I'm hoping HPS's #'s are legit personally!

Dyno'd the HPS Gen 1

Had my dyno done yesterday at the House of Power. My car was running way too lean with the FMU that came with my HPS kit. I upgraded to a super FMU and Josh R installed and tuned. My car now runs safe and I got about 25wheel HP and TQ a cross the board. I'm sure I can squeeze a tiny bit more power out to the car. I'm running 5lbs of boost so I have no idea how some of these systems are running over a 100 more wheel HP than my car on the same amount of boost with a supercharger only.
BTW, my car was 290whp stock. So about a 70whp gain.

I understand but when you are running the same 55 motor and the same 5lbs of boost on a similar type supercharger the numbers should be close. Boost is boost and my car was nice a cool and not heat soaked.

*GASP* are you kidding??? They were NICE to you at HoP even though you had an HPS kit????? And they got it to make MORE power and run safely???? I thought they would be biased against HPS and manipulate it to run worse!!! WTF??

LOL Sorry, I just had a sudden attack of stupidity. Mario, it was great meeting you yesterday. The car looks great and sounds incredible. Don't even think about changing that exhaust, it sounds awesome the way it is - and combined with the whine of your s/c, it sounds like one pissed off car. :0) I think a drag strip meet needs to be set up.....

Well Mario that's not entirely tru.

However let me say great #'s and I got your text message as I was going down the subway.

Back to what I was saying. You guys maybe running the same boost but remember the gen 2 kit has I believe a air to water cooler intercooler I believe. That's why 5lbs of boost in that system would create more Hp at a lower temp.As a result they are getting a denser cooler charge of air.

I will call you this evening Mario!

Sorry, if it seems a stupid remark, I just got onto MB scene (my whole life was modding Mustangs ) so I'm just a newbie, but as far as I know, '99 e55 is DOHC with 4 valves and with a compression ratio 10.5:1, where '05 has a 11:1 compression ratio and 3 valves, plus it has 23 HP more to begin with.
The air flow is different, creating different response to supercharging

99 e55 motor has 10.5:1 compression, but is a 3 valve motor, not a 4 valve.

No ,it's the same engine(3v per cyl SOHC) as the 05'E55 but N/A.

05' E55 has a CP ratio of 9 to 1 for F/I.

Late 2k to 2k2 E55 is N/A with a CP ratio of 11:1.

Overall I'm happy with my dyno. I know its not as much HP and TQ as other systems but the price was right and it cost me $43 per horse power. HOP did a great job and had no problem getting some more HP's out of my car and making it safe to drive hard, even though it was not their kit.

If it weren't for the great price of the HPS system, I might not have a supercharger on my car at all, so I do have to be greatful for that.

Carl, give me a call so we can box this out. LOL

I believe the Gen 1 is suppose to make around 117hp or 466 at the crank, my car is about 35hp shy of the advertised claim.

I still want to see this 479 wheel hp C55 with only 5lbs of boost!! When is the demo day?

My C55 is putting out 450 rwhp... granted I have other mods i.e., headers, exhaust, and ecu tuning.

I don't believe 479 rwhp on only a 5lbs s/c.

I agree with you 100%, for that C55 to have 479whp it would need to be pushing 10lbs of boost or more.

I don't know if you've ever seen the inside of a c55 resonator, but it is straight thru. Replacing it with a straight pipe shouldn't make a single shred of hp.

You never did answer my question - how much boost is the HPS s/c running?
I think you need to change your advertised HP from 531 to 542 if my calculations are right 450rwhp/.83 (17% drivetrain loss) = 542? Can you repost your latest dyno? Brandon's car is not putting down 579 hp as some of you posted. The chart shows 445rwp which /.83 = 536. Not 579 so you are still leading by 6hp. Don't panic just yet. However if he installs the new pulley kit/larger fuel injectors, headers and a new HPS ECU recalibration then maybe you should. My car is just not as powerful as his so I'm staying out of the fray until the TOTAL transformation is complete. (I just wish MB would have put the 4-valve engine with a stock rating of 388hp in this year's model instead of the 2007 model.) I still love the dual ovals vs the new trapasoid headlights which looks like every other Toyota, Lexis, Honda, etc...

I never said Brandon was running on 5 lbs of boost. I was referring to my car. I think I recall HPS setting the boost lower because the car was brand new and they wanted to be safe since the engine was not broken in. I believe that the boost is actually closer to 6lbs based on what I am reading here. Again I am not a mechanic or engineer. I just read and listen to these folks.

Hey E55Cent,

Did you bought the 1st generation sc as used? If you bought it new throught HPS and installed it by HPS approved shop and your car is running lean, this is unecceptable !!! Please be honest. If everything i asked you here is true, then i'm really worry. I will take on Mark Cumming offer. I have not get a second dyno yet since the SC installed.

I forgot to answer you on this. I only spent $6,500 plus tax. The Kleeman SC is $11,000 plus tax but you have to purchase the ECU which is another $2,000 plus tax.

I guess the question is would the Kleeman produce more HP than the HPS kit that gave me an additional 147hp. If I am looking for another 50hp with exhausts, headers, pulley kit, LSD for $5000 then can the Kleeman SC alone generate an additional 197hp over stock without headers, exhausts, LSD, Cams, etc..?

If I spent the additional $6,500 plus tax I would have nothing left over for the other goodies.

My crank hp at sea level is probably closer to 560 hp. The 531hp was on the dyno in colorado at 6,200 ft. elevation and using 91 octane. I'm dynoing the car again next week. I'll wait to post the new dyno. Going to run 100 oct. Hopefully I'll see 460rwhp.

The kit was new, except for the blower. The blower had about 4000 miles on it, from a customer that upgraded to a Gen 2. I did the install my self because I wanted to understand how the kit was put together and just incase I had to remove it for spark plugs and what ever else that may come up. Once the install was complete, the car started up right away with no check engine lights or sputtering of any kind. I later had the car checked over by my buddy who installs, Eaton, Vortec, ProCharger blower on Corvettes for over 6 years. He found zero vacuum leaks or any other problem except for the fuel pressure was not increasing under boost. The FMU supplied with my Gen 1 kit is non-adjustable leaving me no choice but to come up with a solution to make my car run safe. I chose to go with the Vortech Super FMU that is twice the size and can be adjusted on fly while on the dyno.
I'm not blaming HPS for my car; I'm just stating how I resolved my problem and the results. How is your car running? Can you PM me your thoughts of using Aquamist?
Thanks
Mario

Mario, thanks for being honest. This take away my worry also. Well, you didn't blames HPS but Josh, Mark...etc sure make it sound it HPS fault !!! It really not HPS fault in my opinion because the kit was second hand and it was not installed by HPS approved shop. If it was installed by HPS shop, gaurantee that the shop would know the lean problem during the dyno and fix the problem. Your lean problem could very well be a bad FMU went bad during installation/removal or just went bad like any eletronic parts. The first generation sc came with a non-adjustable FMU (to customer) but it came pre-adjust at the factory for HPS. It can not be HPS fault because they didn't install the kit and so they have no dyno to show if the air fuel ratio was right. The second generation sc all have the adjustable FMU. Sorry, got to go. I'll e-mail you when i find time. Thank you.

I have to point out that a kit is a kit and it shouldn't really matter who does the install assuming they know their way around a motor, and Mario has mechanical knowledge in spades. The fact is that there were no problems with the installation or the FMU; the FMU was functioning properly, it just wasn't the right FMU for the job. Packaging a kit with the wrong FMU is either an engineering issue (as it makes no sense to include a non adjustable FMU on a F/I application with no software) or a marketing issue (cheap FMU = less overhead cost = more profit), not an install issue. Even if it was installed by an HPS approved shop with a dyno, with a non-adjustable FMU how would the lean problem have been corrected? There's a good reason they switched to an adjustable FMU in their 2nd gen kits...
