I spoke with another owner of C55 HPS in the Los Angeles area and he told me that the ONLY thing he did was remove the resonator and replace the straight pipes to 2 1/2" from the stock 2" and got an additional 179 HP! The total cost was only $500. As a matter of fact he is going to take me to the same muffler shop that did the job on his.
Something is fishy about this dyno graph. Either the car has more than we know, i.e. more boost, cams, headers and so on. Or this is not C55.

Here is why. Positive displacement blowers produce flat TQ curves. Look at two areas circled on the graph below. There is a 50 lbs. jump ion TQ a 2500 and 50 lbs. jump in TQ at 3200 rpm. Which indicates either a tuned length intake manifold or cams or both. HPS kit does not have tuned manifold.

Secondly, for each psi of boost a good 4-valve motor, like Honda's B18 will gain around 20-22 TQ/HP. This is usually with a good turbo. An Eaton, which 30% less efficient than a turbo, blowing into 3-valve MB head, which is 40% less efficient than a Honda head, will be lucky to see 15 TQ/HP per psi.

So if we have 7 psi than we should see around 100HP gain (7 x 15 = 105). However we are seeing 179HP gain which means around 12 psi (179/15 = 11.9)

Now headers, cams and better exhaust will definitely help and will an additional 2-3 HP per psi.

AMGsc, I do not think you are given a full story here. Something is missing.

Look at the red TQ run on the second dyno graph. That is stock SRT10 Viper.

Looks familiar?

Great response Vadim! I was thinking the exact same thing about that dyno... not that of a C55. I was wondering how he was getting so much Torque.

Did you get a chance to see him or not yet? I'd like to see his car myself as he e-mailed me and wanted to meet up. Maybe we can all meet up this coming saturday since i think we pretty much all live close by. Let me know or PM me. Not sure if this makes a difference or not but he told me he is running a brabus exhuast.

Thanks Dragon!

Also it appears that dyno stops at 6000 rpm. Stock C55s go to 6500 rpms.

Alright! The proud owner is now in the house. Why don't you doubters ask him right here on this forum. If you don't believe him then observe the dyno yourself if you want to pay for it this Wednesday in West LA (E55Cent and JamE55 are from OC).

I am also getting my car dyno'd before and after the straight pipe 1/2" diameter increase. I am thinking of having cross-over pipes done as well to preserve my torque and further the HP if it will fit under the chasis without protruding but will get further advice from the experts before doing it. Headers are next (Tuned Equal Length with 2 stage collectors)!

Does anybody think there are risks or performance losses by widening the diameter of the Cat-Back pipes?

Vadim, You seem to know something about cars. Can you make it to DC Performance tuning to chip in and pay for his dyno in order to prove your point? You can verify if the shop is manipulating the dyno or results in any way.

Drive your car out to Vegas this friday for the open drags. We'll race... HPS vs. Kleemann. I was hoping to go head-to-head with Bennyz (renntech), but that never surfaced.

What do you say? I'll even get you a comped room.

Where is the dyno shop? I might be able to make it. And why don't any of you get off the drag strip and come out to a road course and play?

Lets do a day with all the rides
Brandon: Sounds to me like it is time for a MB dyno day. If you guys are interested PM me.

Just because i Pulled at a viper shop dosent mean a thing,a dyno is a dyno!Wouldn't you trust a shop with a few million $$ in vipers fully blown out some w/1000+ HP?
Unfortunately no. Do a search John Hennessey on google. I have been around dynoes long enough to see all kinds of funny stuff.

The gains and the curve do not match to what an Eaton blower should produce.

Vadim, You seem to know something about cars. Can you make it to DC Performance tuning to chip in and pay for his dyno in order to prove your point? You can verify if the shop is manipulating the dyno or results in any way.
Where is DC? and when?

Hey Brandon,

I received your PM & email, I sent you back the proper information you requested. Impressive dyno results...enjoy it! Dan @ DC is a great guy, he not only works on Vipers but Corvettes too, he does have a amazing array of custom Vipers on lot.

DC Performance Products is in Los Angeles (Near La Cienega and Venice Blvd) according to Brandon. I think it's going to be around 1pm. Check with Brandon to be sure. I don't know if he will want to dyno it again unless a sceptic would like to pay for it. I can't speak for him. Maybe you can PM SUPERC55 yourself to confirm?

I think we need unbiased witnesses on both sides to validate that the inputs (i.e. barametric pressure, elevation, temperatures, humidity, etc...) are all correct regardless of whether the dyno is done at HOP, DC or any other place.
