How to make my Transmission stronger?

With all the things i'm doing to my car i don't want it to snap. I'm going for the Quaife and the MBK tranny upgrade, what else? I also want to do some internal mods like Pistons,Cams, mabye 6.1 liter, port and polish,What do you think? Any help on these items would help. I need more power and less weight.I'm almost ready to get the Recaro DTM seats, but Dam they are $$$$$.

I think you can start by spelling it correctly. Let me ask you a question: Why did you buy a C55?

I want the speed of something like the DTM car. I'm taking out all the glass, seats and electronics.I almost want to buy another c55 to do this right.

What shop are you dealing with?

Renntech offers a tranny upgrade. Also they can do Cams and port and polish the heads as a custom job. As for pistons if your keeping the car N/A getting higher compression ones should add more power, but if you add a SC you'll want lower compression, so you can run higher boost. A 6.1 liter conversion like the one Brabus offers is super pricey, but you'll gain like 80-90hp off just that. In the end though you'll need someone to program all this into your ECU to see the full potential. My first though would be to talk to Renntech to see what they can offer if you don't have anyone lined up to do this.

If you do that I try to get a DTM body kit for it.

You all think i'm crazy but i have more than $30,000 into my car, money is not the problem. Ok the 6.1 is a bit spendy. The widebody kit is in the works soon. That alone is about $10,000. For all the people that want to talk trash lets see your car. P.S. A pic would be nice also with you standing right next to it.

The Brabus 6.1 is $30,000+ alone! For that same price you can do the Renntech high boost SC and get 650hp at the crank! Or go crazy and do them both and have like 730hp at the crank!

I saw your C55 at HOP when I was out in CA. Hows the glass buisness?? I must say that I liked your taste in mods and you seemed to have things done right...sans the HPSgen2....not to bring up a past nightmare.

Guys, if he is going to go through with this I'm sure the outcome is going to be crazy in a good way, he isn't some chump stiring around ideas on the internet. If he wants it, its gonna happen.

I personally wish you would buy a used C43 to do the DTM conversion. I have such an itch for the older W202 and 190E DTM's.

Just some BTDT on auto transmissions. Of all of the techology in modern cars, the component that is LEAST understood by anyone other than the manufacturers is the automatic transmission. They are a mess of valves, pumps and bands, controlled by a bunch of computers. Add to that the relative lack of Mercedes Benz tuner experience, and it's a recipe for pain.

I've had a good technician say to me, "You take these things apart, and you just can't believe that they actually work!"

Aftermarket work on transmissions is VERY risky. There's a solid 50% chance that it will go just fine (of course you don't really know if they did anything to truly strengthen the transmission- and neither do they); but there's an equal chance that something will go wrong. THEN you get the finger-pointing as to who is responsible.

If I were you, I'd leave the tranny as is, and keep my eyes open for a salvage unit to keep as a spare. If you really want 600+ HP, maybe you need a Z06 as a backup car.

I just hate to see someone spend money on a money pit.

If I had the ability to do this to mine....

I would have the motor built a little better suited to an F/I application. Both of our motors are built as N/A engines and I feel they can be improved to accept a blower or turbo.

Stronger internals
Lower comp. ratio
Open up and polish air path intake/exhaust
Upgrade fuel system mechanical/electrical

With the available room I think a kleemann type setup for a blower may be your only choice. I don't see much room for a centifi S/C or turbos. However.....there have been some pretty nasty custom STS turbo systems done. They mount at the exhaust rear so the space problem would be gone. MTI made a 1000hp GTO with the STS rear mount turbos.

Staying at 5.5 displacment with a little engine work to handle boost I think you could get that car to make 600hp+ easily with an F/I setup.

You still in contact with Josh at HOP. I wonder what his ideas would be. A custom STS system would be a first and pretty sick.

I would not worry about transmission. Look at what it handle on E55s.

My suggestion would be to go with Kleemann kompressor, port the heads, add cams, headers and some tuning and you should be close to 580HP.

Find DragonAMG threads, that is what he did to his C55. It has been done and it proven.

From what I've seen/heard, I'd go with the Kleeman. Major power increases & happy customers without blown engines are a good thing. Since it sounds like money is no object, then heck, go for their S8 with cams & headers. Also get a Quaife LSD and since you're going wide body, wide enough wheels with sticky DOT-R tires so you can actually use the power.

I run DOT-R comp tires on most of my street cars (C55, M3, Mini Cooper S JCW) and what can I say... once you try it you'll never be happy with normal slippery street tires again. Just plan on replacing them often.

More like $500,000 to $1MIL after mark-up, duties, and taxes. $250,000 is MSRP.

You could likely make a custom DTM for far less then that and it could be faster then the real DTM too.

I thought the NA 5.5s used the W5A580 (580 N-m cert.) vs. the W5A900 for the S/C 5.5s. Kleeman seems to concur;

Is this not the case for the C55?

Can't disclose too much info but there's a project in progress that will have 800hp! This should be quite interesting to see. Anything is possible if you've got the $$$$$$$$$.

Not sure on the C55, but the C32 and the E55K use the same transmission.
