I don't have the dyno sheets yet. Remember, this was for cams only on a S2 car. I did not port my heads.

I'm going to let the ECU adapt for a while, then hit the dyno again.

so what does a "while" mean? i want to see some results from your car...

glad you got your ECU issues worked out with the Kleemann tune...

Cams are being installed tomorrow

Well, the cams will be installed tomorrow. As promised, my attached Dyno sheet is below. As most of you knew, I lost boost with the head work I had done. The lost boost was good for -40Whp and -30Wtrq over my best numbers. Hopefully, I will have a tap for a boost gauge put in tomorrow as well.

The car seems to be back to normal....running lean and searching for more timing / fuel.

The tune that I'm running now is the custom tune Renntech made for the cams. I doubt that has very little to do with the lost power.

Good news is that the car revs faster and covers the same ground in less time. I'm -40Whp less than before, but the runs I do with local friends has not changed.

My options as of now are:

1. Send the car to Renntech for proper tuning / dyno time.
2. Go with another tuner (Kleeman - JGSX has had good success)
3. Sell the car and by a bicycle.
4. Work on finding another pulley to increase boost.

Thoughts?

PS - Ignore the Elise note on the graphs...my guy didn't save the file under the right car.

The lower boost pressure from porting the heads should NOT reduce horsepower. With a lower restriction in the heads, the boost pressure should be lower, but the total airflow volume should NOT be reduced. The temperature of the air should be lower and one should be able to run more advanced ignition timing due to the lower air temp.

Once tuned, the car should produce more horsepower with less boost pressure in the intake manifold.

Porting the heads, might reduce low RPM torque, though.

I'm still working with Kleeman to further tweak the ECU tune. It is already very good, but we're trying to make it perfect. I'm going to send it out for another update next week. Their service is A++

Update

I dropped the car off this morning and had the cams installed. They managed to get them installed in about 6 hours with only one issue. They had to reuse the right side valve cover gasket because MB forgot to send it!

This is the metal crush gasket, so it should be OK for now. I'll swing by next week and get it replaced.

Now for the good stuff. Keep in mind I've only driven the car for 48 miles so far.

THE CAR HAS WICKED POWER!!! For once in a long time I'm very excited!

I didn't get on it until I was almost home. I decided after talking Erick (sorry bro - cell phone died again) that I would test her out for a few runs. The car trips ESP if I punch it from a roll in second. It did this everytime I got on it, which put a much needed smile on my face. The car pulls really hard and the best way to describe it is the difference in power from stock to stage I.

By the time I got off the freeway, I was getting over 20 MPG. I haven't seen this in months.

If any of you are considering the cams, I would say do it. Next to the Pulley / ECU, this is the next most powerful mod you can do.

I do have my heads ported, so maybe my experience is different but I doubt it. What do you think Joe?

I can't wait to hit the Dyno again.

Stay tuned for more updates tomorrow.

Oh, no issues with rough idling either. The car runs very smooth and quiet.

It's odd. I didn't want to say anything yet, but my highway gas milage has increased from 19mpg to 21.5mpg since I put the cams/Kleeman tune in.

The cams kick ***. Don't forget that if you don't have a Kleeman or Renntech ECU, you're going to need to get that, which can add substantial cost.

There was no loss in low end power, and the midrange and high rpm gained a bunch of torque and hp.

F*CK no! Powerchip doesn't know how to or won't tune for the cams. I tried.

Your update is fantastic news. Jazzed for you. Takes some huevos to thrash a MB down to its innards chasing ponies. Kudos to you for having done it successfully.

Strangest thing about that faulty Schrick. Pleased they (and you) got things squared away. Now, get some miles on her, and kindly post your latest and greatest dyno results so I can justify the same modifications to the accounting department!

I would not recommend cams to anyone that doesn't already have stage 2 mods.

+1 - I think that you need at least a pulley, headers, and custom ECU.

Jerry, this is AWSOME news.... I am really happy for you, and very excited to see the dyno results.

Are you still using the RennTech ECU that includes the cam tuning or is that the one without the cams?

Congrats Joe and Jerry, you guys are making me wish that I still had my C32.... If I did, I would've done these mods along side both of your cars....
