[Custom Exhaust]need help please
I am planning to fab a custom quad exhaust over this winter. I am thinking of using either Magnaflow, Borla, or Vibrant Exhaust. Am I right about using universal muffler for doing the custom exhaust? Is there any other options? If I am right, which one of these 3 exhaust should I use from your experiences? Thank you!

C32 AMG
I can't say from "my" experience, but others have been fairly unanimous that magnaflow wasn't too hot on our cars and Borla was the way to go. Can't say I've ever heard of the other company you referenced.
Just a thought, but you may want to compare prices of dual universal mufflers vs. the price of one single OEM AMG muffler. You could use your stock AMG muffler and keep it all OEM and know what it will sound like (many clips on youtube for you to listen too).
No matter what you end up with, take lots of pics for us to admire of your project and good luck!

From what I have heard in videos and from forum members, the magnaflow has RIDICULOUS drone and is obnoxious. I have never heard of Vibrant exhaust. I want to do a Borla exhaust, but have not heard any C32's with it.

If you do not use the mangaflow resonator with the magnaflow muffler like you are supposed to do in order to do it the right way (which no one ever does and then they complain about it), then yes it will drone. If you run the 22" long mangaflow resonator it actually sounds really good and it gets rid of all the low end drone and sounds refined on the top end. Piping diameter also has an effect on drone as well as which muffler you use specifically, a 3" system will drone more than 2.5" system and etc.
What did you have in mind exactly as far as what type of system you were planning on running, dual 2.5"?

Thanks for the advices guys. I did a search over at the non-AMG section's exhaust thread and find it really helpful. It seems like more people have suggested Borla. By switching to a universal muffler, I think I will lose some back pressure. Now, if I am correct, the C32 runs a 2.75inch pipe from the cats to the muffler. But why does some guys change their piping to 3inch? Wouldn't that lose even more back pressure? Should I just leave the piping as it is?

I actually don't want to do too much change to the current exhaust setup, because Mercedes has really done a good job on the C32 exhaust. I don't want this mod to lose too much power. The reason I want to do this mod is more for the looks and sound. My idea is much like the Carlsson setup (which is too expensive), with 1 muffler and a pipe running along the rear bumper that connects the other 2 outlets.

03 g35 coupe...........02 c32 Sold
I talked to one of the techs when i was a vrp today and he told me for a supercharged car, 2.75in was probably the best.
Makes sense since 3'' exhausts would help turbos more since there run by the exhaust and superchargers are run through the intake.

just as a warning
To the original poster. Approximately 18 months ago, I decided that it would be a great idea to save some money and do a custom exhaust for my E55. I was already running straight pipes and put in a magnaflow muffler with custom tips. To cut a long story short. It sounded like Shi*t and I was out $300. The drone was out of control so i put my resonator back on $75. With the resonator on, it sounded muted and really no better than stock. In the end I decided to ditch it and bought a remus exhaust that was designed for the car.
What I'm trying to tell you, is that you get what you pay for when it comes to exhausts. I don't know what your history is with cars, but I've had a brand name exhaust on all of my vehicles (4) before this one, and it makes a difference.
I realize you want a quad, but you can pick up a super sprint, eisenmann, brabus or remus exhaust for anywhere between $800-$1500. I know that seems like a lot, but you have to keep in mind that the exhaust is probably the most noticeable mod you will ever make. You will hear it every time you start the car and every time you step on the gas. Your passengers will hear it, the cops will hear it, etc.
Think about it and good luck
