greenfilter air cleaner fell apart
I've had greenfilter air filters on my c55 for about a year. A couple of days ago I was driving my kids to school and the car just dies. It would not start and after resetting the ECU as a last ditch effort, it started but ran terribly. I managed to get it to the dealer where they discovered the MAF sensor was bad. Then we discovered that the green air filters had broken apart and pieces of that black gooey rubber that they are made of was all over the inside of my intake. I've never seen that happen before with a K&N, as they are made of actual rubber and the GreenFilter was made of a really really soft gooey rubber. I'm not sure how long these things have been torn apart like this but I just replaced them with K&N filters like the dealer recommended.
I'm curious if anyone else had had problems with air filters. Did I perhaps install them wrong or something?
Thanks,
Mike

yes. this has happened MANY times with green filters. There is something wrong with them. use K&N. NO ONE has had problems with K&Ns falling apart or anything (as long as you dont put the filters in sopping wet after cleaning and recharging).

I wouldn't use any high flow filters your just allowing more dirt to go into the engine. I can't imagine a filter falling apart though pretty scary.

Sorry to hear that.
It happened to me last year as well and I was lucky to find out about the problem early....
If I were you, I would def contact the company and raise hell.. They will stand behind their products. Thers no doubt about that. They sent me a new replacement for free.. However, I had to pay for international s/h charges
If the filter caused further damages to your car, you should get an reimbursement for the repair.
So far, my new filters are problem free.. But I always keep my OEM filters in the trunk just in case..
Good luck n keep us posted.

its really common with green filters..almost all of them have fallen apart at one point for the owner. They will replace them, just give them a call. I would just go with the K & N's or oem. I've had K & N's on my car for over a yr and all my other past cars with no problems. A lot of dealerships sell K & N's as a performance accessory at there part shops.
There's not a big difference between the K & N's and oem. You do notice a slightly better off the line throttle response with the K & N's.

I've had K&N in mine for 3-4 years (same one!). About a month ago I finally replaced them, they were filthybut they held up and did the job. I've considered going Green but I have since gone back to stock. It doesn't effect performance anyway. Stock FTW.

That really sucks! The problem with any aftermarket filter is while they flow more, they usually also have their share of issues. Unless you're searching for every single last ounce of power, I suggest just sticking with oem units. Good luck to you. ![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

My Green Filters crapped out on me , too in less than a year.
The problem is not the filter material itself but the rubber molded flanges. They turn soft then come off the filter housing that hold them in place because of air being sucked in. When I opened my filter housing, half the length of filters just caved in and the rubber flanges were all melted out of shape.
I'm surprised this company has not fully and publicly acknowledged this serious flaw. Replacing for free the filters with the same inferior product does not do anything to improve their product.
Stick with K&Ns. I've never had a problem with them on both my MBZs.

I would just stick with the factory paper filters.. The K&N filters are great filters but the oil on them cause premature maf failure. Because the maf is a hot wire sensor the oil can give fase reading and mess up the sensor.. all the major tuning companys suggest factory filters Kleenman , Renntech, ect....

After reoil, just let sit for a while. Heck, I actually put mine in the oven for about an hour and it was perfect. Or just let them sit out over night. The filters really have to be dripping in oil to cause MAF sensor problems.
correct! MAP sensors it is!

See, I'm going to be completely honest. It is not easy to mess this up. ALL you have to do is follow the directions and make sure it is relatively dry before putting back in the car. I've done this SOOO many times on multiple cars

Call Green and they will send you out a replacement set. I spoke with one of their engineers a couple years ago and they had a production run that had bad gasketing on them. I would suspect this was MOST of the Green filters out there for the C32 since there are only so many of them out there. The issue has supposedly been corrected.
