WIRE and Plug concensus after search

I looked through myriads of posts and many were very old so I wanted to see if the current consensus on wires and plugs was still the same. This will be the first thing I do on the car.

Seems the Magnacore 65211 wires are the choice, and the Denso Ik16 plugs. This the way to go??

I've often been close to trying a different plug/wire set-up... but always (so far) have stopped short. Have read from some engineering-minded enthusiasts that our specific ignition system (twin-plugs per cyl, short wire runs, individual coil packs, etc.) generates more than enough spark energy for efficient combustion, even on modded cars. Have never seen anyone show ANY gain from an equally set-up stock system vs. a modded one - but maybe it exists and I just haven't seen it.

do NOT go with IK16s!.....thats a hotter spark plug, which you DO NOT WANT! people initially went that way a while back until they realized it was hotter and some have switched over. if you are going to change your plugs, stay either with the stock heat range (IK20 if you go with Densos) or with a step colder heat range if you plan on running more boost like me or other guys with the 185 pulley kit (not necessary for 178/code3 or even 185, but its safe on the 185).

as far as wires, i went with the 8.5mm Magnecor. I havent had any problems with my plugs or wires. Some people have had rough idle, but im thinking its b/c of a loose connection.

i only did mine b/c i was running more boost and my car had 80K on it and in AZ....my gas mileage was crappy and i figured changing them out was a good idea.....and my plugs were basically shot, so i'm glad i did

If you're going to stay stock you can't beat the IK20s with the Magnecor 8.5mm Comp wires. If you plan to mod and want some extra head room, go with the IK22s. I have been running the IK22/8.5mm wire combo for ~20k miles and have no complaints at all. Pulled the plugs after ~5k miles just to see how they looked (I was a bit paranoid) and everything looked good.
One tip if you go with the Magnecor wires; crimp the tip of the wires some to make the "snap" firmer when you put them on the plug. Some had issues early on with wires not being snug and/or coming off. After people started crimping them down a bit there were no more issues.
There very well could be some wisdom in c32AMG-DTM's post and we all may be gaining absolutely nothing more than a lighter wallet, but at the same time I have piece of mind and know I'm surely not hurting anything. To me, if the plugs/wires need replaced anyway, why not give it a try?

After lots of research, the Magnecor 8.5 wires were the cheapest online from Needswings website compared to any OEM or aftermarket wires on the web.

I found this page interesting. Obviously being published by Magnecor it's biased, but a lot of the information seems credible. It steered me away from the Nology wires that Code3 is hawking. If you haven't seen it already, Check it out here: http://www.magnecor.com/magnecor1/truth.htm

The only mod I will possibly do, would be the code3 pulley and intake. I dont have much $$, nor the time to do anything beyond a basic bolt on. Should I still stick to the IK20's ??

Price? With what you plan to do with your car, go with whichever is a better deal.

with your basically stock setup and the mileage on your car why not leave it as is and spend the money on upgrading a tune or cai. plugs are good for 100k if im not mistaken

I wasn't even looking to change mine, but you guys convinced me to. I just ordered Magnecors and NGK's from Needswings. I'm nearing 100K, so I guess it was time anyway. Not really looking forward to the install though...

Not really all that tough with the right tools in hand. Make sure your you have an assortment of extension and a flex heads and you'll be good. Toughest part it removing the plugs especially if they have been in since the beginning. Lube the threads on the new plugs to make removal easier down the road. Good luck and have fun!

I run the Magnecor wires and IK16's in a stock engine with no problem. If you mod, defenitely go with the cooler plug.
