Resonator Delete, what pipe size etc?
Hello, new here to the forums, so Hello everyone!
I Got a C32 here in the UK.
Has anyone done a resonator delete and can let me know what pipe size I would need to purchase, and what material the standard C32 Exhaust is made of?
I have good mig and arc welding skills, but need to know the pipe size and material of the exhaust so I can hire the right welder to put the replacement pipe in. It's very expensive to do custom exhaust work over here at a shop, and not as easy to get this mod done as it seems in the USA so I am going to have a go myself. (I have been quoted $300 USD to do this job, so can hire a welder for $40 and do it myself.)
Any tips to drop the exhaust system lower (get top of pipes welded) or what welder type, pipe type, and rough amp settings would really help thanks.
Thanks alot for any info,
Regards, Murks

i used a 3" stainless steel pipe in place of the resonator. i think that is larger than most though.....most i believe do a 2.5 or 2.75"
resonator delete is a GREAT first mod.....and after a day or two (takes that long i think to rebreak in the exhaust system and get the new sound) you will love it. car should have come without it.
and 300 is ridiculous. it cost me 30 for the pipe and 5o or 60 for the labor on my car (all USD)

i agree with jturkel, 3" should be fine.. and $300 is a rediculous price..! it shouldnt cost that much, keep looking you'll find someone to negotiate with.. and welcome to the forum..

I think a 2.75 slides over pretty well of the remaining pipe and gives a good weld spot-3" on mine worked fine-40 in labor total-some places wont pull cats-I try not to push if they say no right away-the res delete may be enough for you (it is for me on the 55)-welcome!

secondary delete you will definitely pass emission.....there aren't even O2s on the secondaries. the only hard part is finding a shop that will understand that and willingly cut them off........i got turned down by a shop when asked them to remove my resonator. guy was like "don't want to mess with MB electronics. too much stuff going on." and i was like "dude, its the resonator".....and he was like "my guy in here has been doing exhausts for 25 yrs and says its not wise on MB. it will mess up the ECU." and i was like "you know what? with that kind of statement, i'm glad you aren't cutting my resonator out. i wouldn't want you to, since you guys BOTH clearly don't know anything about MBs.".......and so i left lol, end rant

any exhaust shop should do it. if they give you an argument, tell them you have FOUR CATALYTIC CONVERTERS. Two in the front (the primaries), and two in the middle (the secondaries), and those are all in front of the resonator (which is just for sound deadening). resonator has nothing to do with emissions. then again, if you need to explain this to an exhaust shop, go elsewhere

You know, I'm in the same boat in NY. I have not yet found an exhaust shop that will do this. The second they hear cat removal, they refuse. Have to keep looking. Anyone have any leads?

Change your wording. They aren't stupid, but don't call them cats. Ask if they can remove the resonator and those extra thingy's hanging back there (honk-honk-wink-wink) then drop a $20 or other appropriate tip. It also helps to go in and befriend them first. Most shops I've found will do whatever you want as long as they trust you.

For the New York guys, I can get you in contact with a North NJ shop. The place is right by GW bridge. If interested, send me a PM. I have done my Res delete, secondary cats delete and a new Supersprint exhaust (amoung counteless other things) at that palce.

It would be pretty hard for them to screw something up. Not much under there exhaust wise, and anything that is on there between the front cats and muffler is what you want removed. Shouldn't be anything to worry about.
