Talk me out of it.....
I sometimes get in these very strange moods where I want to become practical and go green and all that other nonsense. My latest thought is to get rid of my C55, the wifes ML500 and get a few Hondas. Mind you the last time I got in the mood and tried to compromise I ended up in a new RSX (not type S, that was the practical part) and the car was traded in within 6 weeks b/c it felt like I was driving around a soda can.
Not really looking to be talked out of it b/c I know the feeling will pass; more wanted to know if anyone else ever felt this way and/or did it and regretted.

I think about it all the time. I don't think I could ever do it though. I seriously considered getting the Jetta TDI, but forgot about it when I stepped on the gas pedal of my C32.

This doesnt have something to do with another thread you just posted does it? (lol)-
Dont-there's plenty of earth left-and we will all make fun of you and ridicule you to tears if you do.
Seriously-we will. (Tree hugger).

Drive to a Honda dealership
Find the most expensive, every option checked, Civic SI/Accord EX-L V6
Take said car out for a test drive
Get back into your Mercedes (ML or C)
Know why buying said car will never happen

Go and find out what your car is worth for trade in. That right therewill make you think twice.
Secondly, say you get a car that saves you 5 MPG's. Say you drive 12k miles a year.
You'll save about $50 a month. And barely enough emissions to kill two hamsters. Think about it!

C32 AMG
lol When I get in a "mood" I find myself wanting a 6.3. I have to keep myself from jumping on every CLS AMG I see for sale. No green in my blood....

Only green car I see passible has to be non-electric such as a diesel which I'm a big fan of. VW's Jetta TDI, Audi A3 TDI, Q7 TDI and of course MB's CDI/Bluetec lineup of the E,ML,GL,R are all favorites of mine. I still think the best car for size, luxury, comfort and a feeling of adequate passing power has to be the E320CDI and Bluetec. 0-60 in the 6s but yet easily can get 30+mpg. Props to BMWs 335d and X5 diesel as well. The 335d I believe is the fastest green car we got out here in the US running a 0-60 of 5.9 and a 1/4 mile of 14.1 when edmunds tested it, all that plus 500+ miles on one tank.
If there is one thing I hate about hybrids its the whole compromise to feeling like you're driving a stone, I'm a big fan of road noise, tire noise, engine noise, I love the elements that you experience when you drive a car. I still see a great DD is a manual Jetta TDI from 06+, the E class CDI/Bluetec and once it comes out, Audi's A3 with the 6 speed diesel. Those are my only choices when going green, clean diesel technology.
TDI Jettas can get 45 combined and people have hit 50s to even low 60s depending on driving. A couple with their 2009 Jetta TDI set a Guiness World Record of 58.82 mpg driving across a span of 9,419 miles. They averaged 853 miles per tank and total cost of fuel was $653. 06 or 6.9 cents a mile. They drove within 5mph of the posted speed limit.
I would love a GL CDI for a family roadtrip vehicle to replace or add to our LX470. I've read about hitting as high as 25-27mpg on interestate trips. Slap a Kleemann KD-Box and even more passing power and fun. Couple that with a 26 gallon tank and you're rocking 650-700 miles between fillups. My family and I would have to stop before that...lol. Diesel offers two major things hybrids don't have, torque and boost. That alone will make them fun to drive on a daily basis, I like the have your cake and eat it too mentality diesel vehicles have vs. hybrids.
I can see a diesel for a DD or running errands/quick/long trip car but I must say I will still gou out to get something that makes you smile a la AMG, M Division, Audi's S/RS, or the formidable P-Car.

Did you also read how long and how far you would have to drive a 335d to break even with a 328?
at least over here in the US-its very rare that a hybrid or D are cost effictive-its more about being a tree hugger then saving money.....

Try living with a green car. I spend 5 out of every 6 weeks driving a 1.4l petrol Golf which cures me of any tree-hugging inclinations. I much prefer the C55 at 20 mpg to a gutless 35 mpg. YMMV.

too funny
I had the same thought about a month ago....started looking at "green cars". Not sure I will do it...but it makes me feel responsible just to think about it. I might just leave it at that!

Ill tell you man Honda, Hyundai, etc...they are putting out some really good products. I still believe Hondas are the best made cars in the world, hands down. Nothing ever goes wrong if its maintained...no other manufacturer has been so consistently perfect in my experience.
Go ahead and drive an Accord, I think youll like it. Every time I have rental cars I go for 09 Hyundai Sonata's because I enjoy them that much...seriously. The v6 has a lot of pep, the dash is very nice, I can plug my ipod in (and it lists all the tracks on the dash screen, something my brand new Merc doesnt). You can have that car with 10k on the clock for under $15k out the door.
Just my opinion, there are some great, dirt cheap, feature rich, environmentally responsible cars being made these days.

The rest of the board members are praying and thinking positive thoughts for you.
If you truly want to go green, wait two years minimum, a whole new series of hybrids should be out. If you still want to go green, then do it.
If the go green dream can't wait two years, not worth going after anyhow.....

First, Test drive any green car.. Put it in 1st gear, punch it for full 8 sec..
Now, you get into your C55, put in 1st gear, punch it for full 3.5 sec...
U'll come up with an right answer then...

well, not necessarily "going green" would mean fuel saving.
I was driving in the Pocono (Mountain roads) with a friend on a road trip, we both had 3 others in the cars, and he was driving a 2001 Galant 4 cyl.
Driving on the mountain roads, I got about 18mph+/- and my buddy only had 14mpg! the monstrous V8 was more economical than his 4 cyl!

I'm already over it.......drove my mother-in-law's civic to the store last night and honestly thought I could get out and run faster so there will be no Honda in my future.

Here's how you will talk yourself out of it. Get in C55. Pull onto street. Turn off ESP. Push skinny pedal all the way to the floor. Smile and giggle like a little school girl and remember why you about a C55.

i got my c32 for the power and comfort only. its not really my track car b/c it rolls like a school buss. but my s2k gets way better mpg and can handle just about any corner i throw at it. Im not green by any means but i feel like i balanced out my wants pretty well.
So, i guess just keep buying cars until you cant get anymore loans. hahahaha
