evo x vs c55

So I was driving on a private stretch of what resembles a freeway in mexico the other day when a new Evo X rolled up next to me. We toyed around for a little bit but none of us really punched it. At around 75 or so he punched it and I could hear his 2.0 screaming. I mashed the gas and easily passed him and let off at around 115. He was no where to be found. I slowed down to let him catch up to me but the evo just tucked its tail and didn't try to line up next to me again.

C55 - 1 Evo X - 0

Now, if it had been modified, that would be an entirely different game.

nice run!

you know what.....down low is where they are best....with regards to their gearing and turbo/motor size....i'm not surprised at all you pulled it like you did. with a modded EVO X, you will have a little more trouble.....but i bet you still are strong as hell up top against it and pull on a highway roll (55+) even if he's got a turboback exhaust.

nice kill..some times i do wish we had the product support that evos and supras have. I'm not saying i want to have 1000whp but it would be nice to have that option..lol.

But its nice just to have parts when you order it instead waiting for weeks for parts.

an evo 10 with basic bolt-on mods is trapping quite a bit higher than 107mph... more like 115-117mph

hmm......well i guess its case by case, i can say that i've pulled quite a few evos with full exhaust, intake, tune, etc.....but again, those are case by case....and i noticed i pulled up top.

either way, the evo Xs are a little slower than the past evos (IIRC), but i think an EVO X with just a turboback or DP won't pull a C55 on the highway......thats why i said just a turboback. i'm well aware how easy it is to make those things fast from first hand experience.

I would love to try to keep up with an EvoX at a road circuit/track. In the dry, it may not be that big of a differnce (assuming comparable driver skill). I've been to a lapping day with a EvoX, and I could pass him, but I highly suspect the driver was not experienced. However, in the wet or on snow, the Evo will kill us on the streets or the track.

but they run out of steam around that area don't they? They aren't geared for autobahn runs 130-150+ I'd like to say.

Even bimmers aren't geared as high as mercs, considering they're more for blasting around the bavarian alps.

An EVO impressed the hell out of me. On a back country road one day I have one behind me pushing my a$$. I punch it and it is on. I can pull on him in straightways, but every time we hit a turn he is right there. I had to go home and look it up to see what the hell it was.

Great kill on the Evo. They are cool but no match at Autobahn speeds to a C55 let alone a C63.

at 80mph my Evo X was at 4k rom in 5th gear....over 100 and they crap out w/o an FP or HTA turbo on them-from a dig and twisties are where they shine (unless you find an VIII or IX from buschur )
My C55 had better tq then my modded X, my Pcar is better then both all around...

god, so many of them rolling around western washington...the only reason why i don't debadge my car because people would think I have a fake amg...

saw a "s55" the other day with a brabus replica front end, monoblock vi reps (can't say much because I have those on too...) but he had taken off the s500 badge, put on a crooked amg badge and had 2 fart can mufflers for a civic...dead giveaway? stock brakes.

My Evo X at a local track day (I gots lots more of other cars if anyone is interested-R32 Skyline, Ryan Gates Evo X, lots of Evo VIII's and IX's, Ford GT, ect)-
had a blast out there with it-kept up well with the newer M3 in the turns (this is a 13 turn track)-got stomped on the long sweepers-best I could hit was 128 in the Evo X, 134 in the C55, Pcar made it to 147!

awesome! Personally, I love evo's a lot as they are the best bang for the buck when it comes to awd 4 cyl's but the boy-racer image that is associated with evo's around here is hard to shake. The c55 is a total sleeper

I was just surprised on how easily i walked away from him. I guess I just got used to the horsepower/torque of the beast

Weight, track(the car, not the place), usable power, gearing, power to the ground.....stock Evo X was dynoing around 230hp-the P car is 260+ modded best I got on the X (this was pre-ROM Flashing-I was too new for it-really bad fat tune) was 260hp (intake, CBE, test pipe, sways, coils, aero, pads/fluids). The Stock 10 was running something like a 10.5:1 AFR from the factory at WOT-it was bad bad.

You should add aerodynamics too. Since the porsche was designed from the car ground up to be a sports car where as the c55 was designed to be a compact luxury sedan and then AMG modified it to a sports sedan.

People should remember the EVO was designed to be a rally car first. Its designed for traction and handling in mud, snow and other rough terrain not a smooth autobahn.

Most rallies rarely even hit 100mph during the course, they spend most of the time only going 45-80mph.

Cool thread.

I've got an X with full bolt-ons pushing out 430hp/435tq on a conservative dyno dynamics. Runs high 11's in the quarter, and is a beast off the line (3.5 seconds to 60). But you guys are right, the 5-speed gearing is not ideal for highway. I'd argue that most tuned Evos will be in trouble at freeway speeds against your 55's and 63's!

Well its a evo, those cars basically have unlimited hp since there so many parts for your car and there dirt cheap.

I thought about getting a evo 8 as a second car since i can build the entire block for almost the same price what i spent on my throttle body and intercooler parts on my c32..lol.

Unfortunately,a lot of the evo owners i talked to are douches at least the ones on socalevo.net. Kinda soured me on the car.

But i do agree its a great bang for your buck car.
