C32 Custom Dual Exhaust and Diffuser
I've had all of the parts for my exhaust sitting around for a month or so and finally got around to installing it all. Secondary cats were removed and a DynoMax X-Flo Muffler was installed in their place right under the center of the car. The shop did aluminized steel from the muffler all the way back with some pretty tricky bends on the passenger side. I used single-in dual-out double walled stainless steel beveled tips from Bear River Converters. The passenger side tip had to be modified quite a bit to fit without destroying the spare tire tub. Anyway here are a few pictures, I'll get a sound clip up soon since it sounds beastly now.
Total cost of all parts and labor excluding the diffuser was $650.

No headers yet jturkel, but I can do you one better than sound clips, I'll show you in person anytime you want to meet up here in Houston. I'll get you info on the place that did it if you are interested as well.

Sound clip as promised, sounds much deeper and LOUDER in person. Scared the crap out of some guy in an E55 on the highway yesterday when I stepped on it next to him.

so just for clarification, you have deleted your secondaries, replaced them with one muffler (i'm guessing this in the place where your resonator would be). and then you have taken off the AMG mufflers and replaced them with the dynomax ones with tips?
also, any idea as to about how much weight was added with your setup?

Secondary cats connect to a Y-Pipe which then meets the resonator and goes all the way back with a single 2.75 inch pipe the the single-in dual out muffler....this is in the stock setup.
In my setup the secondary cats were cut off, those two pipes were then fed directly into the X-Flo muffler which sits in the area that used to house the cats, y-pipe and resonator. The muffler is a dual-in dual-out x-pipe configuration. From the two outlets on the muffler it runs back with a 2.5 inch pipe on each side and terminates into the tips. Hope that clarifies. You can sort of see it in the pictures.

ya man that helps alot!
your car sounds MEAN
Right now I have both secondary cats and resonator removed and replaced with straight pipe, what would I need to do?
replace the straight pipe where the cats used to be for the x-pipe?
do u know where I can get that x-pipe/muffler?

How's the acceleration now. Did you feel you lost low end torque or does it feel more responsive over all?
Looks amazing, the cell phone pics I got just didn't do it justice. The sound is a lot more civilized then what I thought. I was thinking it was going to be raspy, but it just sounds like our stock sound, just a bit louder.
I'm sure you just dropped close to 50lbs, by eliminating the secondary cats, resonator, and factory exhaust.

This set up is for a dual exhaust, so you would just have to have them remove the y-pipe and and have them have two pipes come into the dynomax muffler and then you would need them to run two pipe for dual exhaust. This would also delete your amg muffler.

The dynomax would be your muffler and sits in the area that the resonator was before. So every thing past you primary cats are gone and you would have a shop run pipes from both cats into the dynomax mufler and then you would run two pipes out of the dynomax muffler to create a dual outlet.

regarding a decrease in backpressure, it doesn't really make a difference for supercharged cars. and FWIW, i recall that Rob at needswings tested out some electric cutouts on his exhaust. he may have lost a little low end, but picked up some high end, adding 1-1.5 mph to his trap speed IIRC

There may be a very slight loss in low end, like under 3000 rpm's, maybe. Could just me my mind telling me that since I've read about it. Either way, it sounds devastating and the back of the car looks so beefy now. I love the look and the sound more than I care about losing 2-3 horsepower.

you really think 50 pound drop? shiz.....if the configuration lost weight, i want....there is nothing else i can really do (at least afford to do at this point) to make it any quicker.

What would you say Chris? How much weight do you think was saved?

The resonator weighs easily around 20 lbs, the amg muffler weighs about 40 lbs, each cat probably weighs about 5 lbs for a total weight saving of 10 lbs for the pair, and the y pipe weight around 2 lbs. So if we add all of that together it comes out to be about 70 lbs, the muffler Chris added another muffler which probably weighs about 25-30lbs. So the weight savings might be more like 30-40 lbs, maybe not 50 lbs. I've had both the resonator and the muffler off my car and they were much heavier than what I thought.

i mean, if there is even a 30-40 lb weight savings, that would offset a measley 1-3 hp on low end....i have too much low end power anyway. i'd gladly trade a little low end for a little top end

I forgot the weight of the exhaust tips, I think each one weighed like 5lbs. Maybe the weight savings is more like 20lbs. Every thing would have to be weighed to be exact, but I'm sure that there is a weight savings.

I doubt that the pipe added more than 5 lbs, but I don't know what gauge of pipe they use and if it's lighter or heavier than the piping mercedes uses. I would think being 2.5" instead of 2.75 reduces the weight by a bit of the pipe.
