No MAF?? What might this be...

So I've read numerous times in the W203 forum that the C32 has no MAF but rather a MAP. Well after ripping everything out of the car trying to figure out whats causing the car to idle like crap we came across what looks like a small mass air flow sensor.

Thought I'd run it by benz experts (see attached)

What you’ve read is correct; that’s a IAT sensor. CRC’s MAF cleaner works well to remove its inevitable blow-by residue.

It’s likely not “causing the car to idle like crap” though.

Damn Splinter I really thought I was on to something too lol It wasn't to dirty but I cleaned it anyway. This rough idle has me stumped

Thanks for the insight

Any OBD II codes noted before pulling it apart?

There was a stored P0456 (small vacuum leak) but no cell Not sure how long it's been there. Cleared the codes about 8 weeks ego so it's fairly new.

I did have an ESP go to workshop error pop up the other day but has since gone.

So far we've checked the spark plugs (looking good) checked the air filters, changed the oil, cleaned what I now know is the IAT sensor, cleaned the throttle body and so far no improvement at all. We're pretty much at a loss on what to do next

look under the manis. theres 2 rubber lines that go to the t/b to a y splitter. they get hard and can cause a vacuum leak. if you look close at the iat sensor you will see a small bulb on the end. due to the force of the air passing thru it it gets bent and oil from the blow by tubes get baked on it. its easier to replace it than clean it

What is a manis? I believe I know the rubber lines you are talking about (they are towards the back correct?)

As for the IAT sensor the bulb looked good and was clean. (You can see it in the picture I posted above)

+1, that's the IAT like Splinter says. The C55 has the MAF which is big and round with a "wire" through it!!
