C55 Fuel Filter Replacement Question (yes, searched)
Folks,
I would like to replace my fuel filter on my 06 C55. I already searched and found this write-up:

However, there seems to be some confusion around whether this applies to the C55 or only C32/C230.
Can any C55 owners confirm whether our fuel filters are inside the fuel tank and hence cannot be DIY-ed? Or if they can be changed, can you please share the location and any tips?

It's combined with the fuel gauge sensor on the left side within the tank. Price was around $300-400 as I recall for a new unit from a dealer. It looks like you get to remove the fuel pump/level sensor on the right side too to change it.
Don't ask me what the difference is between a fuel gauge sensor and a fuel level sensor, in my world they're the same.

The tool is used to remove the fuel sender which has the fuel filter in it. I don't think you have to remove the tank but information is scarce on this topic for the C55. If you find any better information please post. I am also looking to change my fuel filter.

Why do you feel the need to replace the filter? Have you tried cleaning the injectors?

Replacing filters are a routine PM function. Up to a point a filter works better as it collects dirt, but as the particulate layer builds up it increases pressure drop. At some point the fuel pump can't provide enough pressure at full load resulting in a lean condition.

Now, I am on parts.com and looking for the right part to order. Please see the attached parts diagram:
The description says # 10 is the "Sending unit" and retails for $264. However, it shows the fuel filter as separate - #13 and it retails for only $45. Does that mean that once we get the sending unit off (per the instructions on Lenin's PDF), we can remove the fuel filter and replace that part only? Really hoping this is a $45 job and not $264.

I gave up on this job after the cost associated. Looks like the AMGs need a whole fuel pump assembly which is close to $300 I believe.

Were you able to locate #13 in the diagram? It looks like that is the filter that is inline between the pump and regulator. It seems like an easy job once you disconnect the fuel lines and pull the units out.

Something looks wrong with the diagram on Parts.com that fuel filter looks alot like the one that the C32 uses. Shouldn't the fuel filter look something more like the diagram that "Lenin" posted with his instructions to replace the fuel filter? Anyways, I'm interested cause that is what I bought about a 2 years ago, and am hoping I didn't buy the wrong part! Can anyone confirm this?

The way EPC works is it shows pictures for all W203s then it uses filters/vin codes to filter out parts that do not apply to that specific vehicle. If you removed the filters you would notice it's a regular filter for another car. So the part you are looking for doesn't actually exist from the dealer.

For my '06 part number 13 does not apply. If (when) I change my fuel filter I will need part number 9. MB uses generic diagrams and then uses your VIN to filter out parts that do not apply.
