when to shift

Can anyone tell me how fast my c32amg is going at 6000 RPM in each of the gears. The tach is small and I would like to use the large cluster MPH to tell me when to shift.

According to Road & Track:

1st . . . 6,000 rpm = 38 mph
2nd. . . 6,200 rpm = 64 mph
3rd. . . 6,200 rpm = 100 mph
4th. . . 6,200 rpm = 141 mph
5th. . . 5650 rpm = 155 mph (governed)

But without the "M" mode in the transmission how are you going to force upshifts? I think the transmission computer will just do it for you when it hits 6,000 or 6,200 rpm if you're driving hard, and less if you're not.

What is "M" mode? I've never heard of that. With the AMG speedshift, you can downshift & upshift manually. It will not do it automatically.

No M mode on a C32 in the U.S. but the M mode only shifts when told to by the driver. If your C32 doesn't automatically upshift when approaching redline in any gear setting run to the dealer!

Try this...put your car in "1" and floor the car to run up to redline. Don't touch the shifter at all and watch it shift to "2" automatically at redline. The transmission will continue to shift automatically at redline without your intervention until you back off the throttle so as to not approach the redline. For example, if you run to redline in first and second and then back off in third the transmission will remain in "3".

If you leave the trans in "D" you're not going to see the number on the dash of what gear you're in; it will always say "D". In the situation you described all you need to do is punch it and the transmission will down shift to the appropirate gear for your speed via the "passing gear" kickdown.

You really don't need to overthink the transmission but a thorough read of the owner's manual would be a good idea.

According to me:

1st . . = 42 mph
2nd. . = 69 mph
3rd. . = 108 mph
4th. . = 154 mph
5th. . = 186 mph

...using stock 17" with a red line of 6.225 RMPs and "S" mode.
