What are these leaks from? Are they serious?

Hey Guys,
I changed my oil today and noticed these two areas underneath my car to be coverered in a shiny oily liquid. I've noticed it before but it seems to be getting worse for some reason. One is behind my oil pan and the other I think is the AC Compressor. It doesn't drip on my garage floor, so that's a good thing I guess, but it just seems to be covered in this layer of goop which does not make me feel confident in it's condition.

Could somebody let me know what exactly I've looking at and if it is serious enough to make repairs? How much will these parts/repairs cost me?

Thanks guys.

Have the same engine oil under mine, there might be a very small leak somewhere?

But I have put it down to all the oil fill ups that have dripped down from the top and also the oil filter changes which both can be messy.

My oil filters changes are never messy and it nevers drips to the point of making those areas of my car look the way it's shown in the pictures.

Anybody else have some insite what could be the problem?

why dont you try cleaning up around the area as much as you can then drive the car around for a little while and recheck. that should help you locate the source of the leak...

I don't think that will pinpoint the leak. It looks like a gradual leak over time.

it will help pinpoint the leak. thats how dealerships and mechanics work to find leaks, the mechanics wipe it clean and wait for the leak to restart. the dealership steam cleans your motor so alot of the seal areas are spotless, making the discovery of the leaky area alot easier...

just spray the area with berrymans or pj1 then run it for a day. you'll see where the leak is.

On the CLK55, there's an oil cooler next to the filter. I believe the o-rings harden and leak with age. Do C43's have that same oil cooler? If so, and the o-rings are leaking, I remember reading a "how-to" in one of the CLK55 forums. It was a rather simple fix.

Do you or anybody know where I could find the DIY article for the replacement of the O-Rings on the Oil Cooler?

I posted a topic in this forum with really big pictures and a DIY instruction for the oil cooler gaskets. They are pretty small and amusingly expensive considering its a tiny bit of rubber.

Reading through the replys I think I'm going to check my rear main seal as I still have a little oil on the trans like in the picture...

Found it, thanks Nitro.

Does anybody know how much this repair would cost at the dealership?
I'm in Seattle and would probably have it done at Phil Smart or Barrier.
Thanks.

based on the amount of oil I cleaned up on mine I would say your leak is more than the oil cooler alone. It was very specific to the front area. I say this because mine is dry and the tranny pan still has a little oil on it, which I need to investigate.

I would get a mirror, check all sides of the oil cooler and clean it good. Check the bolts for tightness, then proceed. It may just be that the bolt(s) could be a liitle loose. You may get lucky.
