Staggering

So, besides the obvious wider tire...what is the purpose of staggering the wheels? I need to get rid of my 19s for something lighter. I was looking at a set of 18s a MBW member is selling but they are either 8 or 8.5. I was considering these with a spacer in rear to get the wheel out there a little. I want to lower the car at least 1.5 inches maybe more with a Cup Kit or coil overs.

Opinions please.

First, the car looks hundred times better with staggered wheels. All super cars have staggered setup id say.

Car handles a lot better with staggered wheels and has more grip due to wider tires in the rear, especially if you have RWD(which you do)

I get that part...at least the traction due to wider tire...but on my current set up 225/35/19 245/35/19 versus the setup I am looking at 225/40/18 235/40/18 with a spacer in the rear to get the tread centers outward...I mean we are only talking 1 cm difference. Can 1 cm really make that big of a difference on these cars? I could see it on a track car, like my Miata (which is VERY touchy about unsprung weight). These cars are not Super cars and are not pushing huge HP numbers.

Just stick with the staggered set-up, it looks soo much better and definitly helps for traction when your making awesome torque.
And yes they are not "super cars" but they are DEFINITLY not cars to take to easily either... and what are you comparing the AMG's too anyways?? AMG's work off of Torque numbers BTW,, the HP numbers are secondary here.....

Depends on your drop really...
I would suggest keep with stock 225front & 245rear
I went 235 front & 255 rear
but my drop is big and it rubs in the back on every little bump on the streets..not fun, next tires i go back to 245 lol

Ok now I understand!
The AMG cars had the staggered setup all the time, for cool looks and better stability, right?

Its not only for looks or stability,, its Because the added Torque from the AMG engines needs the traction on the wider rear wheels....

Sorry I forgot about the torque in the engine too!
I know for a fact that when I have washed my car and it's all wet, tires also wet!
When taking of gently, my car spins and loses traction on dry surface when hitting throttle gently!
I guess it's because my tires are wet and slippy but also my car is healthy!
I don't know about the wheels?
They are heavy 18 inch original Brabus monoblock V!
multipiece wheels!
Would this make the car be slower and weaker in strenght for torque?

I know if a car has a bad MAF then car, responds poor and the torque is less than 410nm!
This is not on my car I changed the MAF!
So I know it has all the ponies present when needed!
It pulls like a train!

my 18" brabus Vs were amazingly lighter than the stock 17 monos. And staggered with fatty lips is just plain sexy.

what are you saying man?
Are my original BRABUS monoblock V lighter than stock 17 inch AMG wheels?
Is this true?
I have 225/40/18 fronts and rear is 255/35/18
They are heavy!
They feel heavy!
They look phat!

But they handle worse than the 17 inch wheels!
The steering response isn't as good with the 17 inch wheels!
The ride comfort is great on a good tarmac road!
But on smaller roads with bad tarmac thenit isn't fun driving the car, it rattles sometimes inside the cabin!
Well everything is a compromise, between ride comfort/ stiffness in shox!

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
Besides the

increased traction to the rears provided you use stagger to tune the cars characteristics for under and oversteer.

it's impossible you run 265 in the back with a drop without rubbing
UNLESS you played with you fenders.
wich i don't wanna do,

What are the offsets on your wheels?

I completly took out th plastick pieces that are around the wheel hole inside and I rolled the fenders on top and bottom only. Where the top of the rear bumper connects with the metal body. To be honest it rubbed a little bit with y continental 2 tires but with the michelins there is no rubbing at all. I dunno whuy, same tire size

For you fellow americans not understanding foreign language!
I'm describing my problems for my new found friend from Balkan!
I thought I was the only one from Balkan that drove a C43 AMG!
I guess I was wrong!

Well my problems had been some electrical gremlins with my transmission!
I had to change the conductor plate and the plastic o-ring plug because of oil leak!
MAF changed
Front O2 sensors changed
Clear coat peeling of at few places
HU display on climate control is ****ed up on and off!
All these problems occured less than 90,000km on the clock!
Otherwise she's been a good ***** my car!

Moj auto nisam bas zadovoljen zato sto imao a few rust spots!
Promenio sam MAF
Climate control display is going south!
clear coat is peeling of at certain places on inner door seal and trunk seal where the metal is folded!

Sve ovo se desavalo ispod 90,000km!!!!
Slabi kvalitet na C-klasse 202!

Inace kola ide super!

i have 255/35/18 in the back and it rubs only when i have 4 people in the car and i hit a bump other than that i have no problems and i did put my buddy's 235/35/18 front and back for a couple of days and the car handled completely different for some reason and sometimes the ECU would completely shut off and the car wouldn't shift, speedo was not working and all the lights on dash would come on
