started tear down for paint

I imagine the flap is to stop junk flying directly inside the intake tubes to the air filters. I even installed a second flap on the other side (M113 engines have two intake pipes). My worry is not so much junk, insects, stones, etc. getting in, but more the problem of water ingress when it rains. True, removing the flap(s) will improve air flow (+50hp minimum
), but even with the flap I can imagine the ram air effect of the moving car should be sufficient to get cool air in. Cool air is better than hot air taken from an intake in the engine compartment. Must also be a reason why the MB engineers put the flap there in the first place... If the flaps are removed, I guess you will need to clean (change) your filters more often.

The intake snorkel on my S2000 is substantially lower, below the bumper rebar, plus the car is a lot lower than the AMG. That snorkel ingests piles of road crap. I dumped out a bunch of sand and general muck out of the intake box earlier this spring. On the S2000, I think I will add a piece of mesh to prevent the larger pieces getting in. Perhaps I will do the same with the AMG.
I'll post a pic later so you guys can see the comparison.

Nurburgring sticker adds 50hp too. Anyway, the intake sits quite low to the ground, much lower than the grille on the C43. I'd be surprised if opening up the area on the C43 grille results in much more crap getting into the airbox. At any rate, all the stuff is stopped in the airbox by the filter.
I remember one of the S2000 guys, with a similar Spoon style intake, finding a dead mouse in his airbox. Ewww...it does provide an access point into the airbox for little critters.
Yesterday at Home Despot I picked up a roll of screen door material. I'm going to fix that to the intake on the S2k, and maybe on the C43 too.

Good luck with the install

I didn't manage to finish my supercharger install on the S2000 over the weekend, so I'm driving the C43 this week. About 90% done, just need to tidy up some wiring and hoses, and should be good to go. Didn't want to rush last night, so going to finish it off this weekend.
Here's a pic of the grille and some pix of the charger install on the S2k:

Starting out with an NA S2k with some mild mods:

...to nearly finished supercharger kit install!

and another photo for kicks:

Obligatory AMG content: looking forward to my upcoming roadtrip holiday to Vancouver. I've got a pile of parts waiting for me in my shipping depot across the border - most of which will find their way onto the 55 motor. Aiming to tackle the 55 swap in August
sometime.
Power adder filled summer!!!

A lot of the larger components utilize OE Honda fasteners, which was very impressive. Unfortunately, once installed you can't see a lot of the bespoke brackets made by Science of Speed, the maker of the kit. They are gorgeous anodized black aluminum pieces.
Compared to the C43....the S2k is still feeble in the torque game! Stock the S2000 has about 155 ft lbs of torque (the torque spec to bolt up the crank pulley 192 ft lbs!!). With the charger, that's up to about 250 ft lbs, so stock the C43 still has more torque, but of course weighs 700 lbs more than the S2000. The S2k now should put out about 300rwhp, give or take, about a 100hp jump from stock.
Still have to wind up the S2000 to make power, but that's fine, that's the character of the car and why I like it. The C43 is very different, which is why I'm glad of having both.

I haven't ordered a Wavetrac LSD. I wish I had put my name down on one, as I may have missed the boat. I understand there is a waiting list now, and that production may be limited. Boo. I was waiting also to see others' experience with them, I understand 320 Dreamer and AusMBTech had orders in.

There's about $300 worth of seals, gaskets and engine mounts in that photo (might have some S2000 stuff mixed up in there too though).

Now I can start tidying up the 55 motor and get it ready for the swap.
After that I want to get a new Bluetooth and iPhone compatible deck into the car, and maybe some gauges too. As much as I'd like to get European gauges, I think I may head with Autometer Phantom IIs - they are white faced during the day, but with night time illumination the faces are darkened - just like the stock C43 gauges.

How many hours does it take you to get to Van city from Edmonton?
Which route do you take? Coquihalla?
Planning an August road trip to Vancouver Island (Tofino). I'm thinking of adding Edmonton in there too depending on the road condition and my available time.

I think it's about the same distance and time whether you go the southern route via Calgary/Golden or the northern route through Jasper. It will be a bit longer further south via the Crowsnest Pass though, but there's the awesome Frank Slide area to behold in that region.

Nice black grille by the way. What exactly is "Plasti-Dip"? Is it a brand name?

I think we put about 3,500km on the road in those 10 days. We took my wife's Land Rover LR3, actually. More room for stuff in the back!
