Missing cap for diagnosis connector

Not sure what the official name for this part is, but it's obvious that the
cap is missing and I don't want to keep it open.

Does anyone know if this part can be purchased separately, or do I have
to search for this on ebay? Is it a common part with all W202s, or
particular to our cars?

I agree, don't leave it open as it could get muck and water inside and electronics don't like that MUCH. Get a new plug from the dealership. Should not be too expensive. Have you checked in the nook and crannies to see if it hasn't fallen off and sitting in a dark corner??

Yeah take a look around first.... I was missing the cap that goes on the back of the headlight, I pulled the front bumper off and VOILA! Found it sitting in the bumper.

is it this hole where you plug in the aftermarket code reader?
can you recommend a good code reader for cheap money?

I'm not sure of the use of that connector (although I suspect it's for Mercedes' proprietary scanners or something like that) but the OBD2 port is in the driver's side footwell, basically above your right knee.

I use a Scangauge, which I have semi permanently mounted on a panel next to my dash in my S2000. A couple nuts and it's off to use in any other OBD2 equipped car, however. Lots of features, including mileage calculations, but the nice bit is for real time display of the readings off the OBD2 port.

PLX Devices has some really cool stuff too, now with OBD2 support. I'm contemplating a gauge or two from them for my S2000 later too, although their products are for more permanent installs:

But you should be able to pick up OBD2 scanners really cheap nowadays. Princess Auto is a lovely Canadian chain of stores that carries loads of stuff for shop/farm/whatever. Lots of cheap Chinese made tools that have allowed me to dissect my cars over the years!

C$40 gets you into a basic scanner.

Is it not where the dealership connects the Star diagnosis system?

maybe euro cars doesn't have this option plug to hook up code-readers?
because we don't have the CEL light on cluster!
I'm not sure?

I noticed on passengers side dashboard end when you open the door there is a lid that can be pulled out!
is it for switching off the passengers airbag above glove compartment?

can you take a picture from the port for connecting the code reader?
I want to be sure I have the same as you guys!
when I pull out my battery to take it home for charging during winterslumber I'm going to get code errors on my car!

Little bit but let me just say I love seeing all these different covers for the driver and passenger side top corners. I've never seen the style pictured above, I occasionally see people with covers for the driver side (US), and mine is just plopped on there, not attached by anything.

Just sayin
