Just pulled the trigger on a set of OBX CLK430 headers....

Does anyone here have them installed on a C43?

Yeah, I am a bit mod happy... O_O Diffusers, splitters, LSDs, velocity stacks....

I recall someone saying these have bigger ports/piping than the stock manifolds. Another bonus is that I have some time before they are installed to have them jetcoated.

So I take it you didn't really research these all that well seeing how you really don't know the specs of these headers (i.e actual dimensions, claimed gains, etc...) I think you would have been better off putting the money towards the kleemann headers. I know people complain about the weld quality but I have yet to hear anyone say they don't add power...

I hope the OBX headers work out for you but it doesn't sound (or look) promissing.

Good idea on the JET coating will help reduce temps, you might want to look into another place called Swain, they are TOP OF THE LINE when it comes to coatings. This is the place I will be sending my headers to (once I get them )

You can also get some coating here, but have to cross the pond: Zircotec high performance coatings, ceramic coatings, engine, automotive, motorsport, exhaust manifold and header coatings.

I've put 3 sets of those on a 211 E55 for a guy I know. 3 sets because they kept cracking. They're definetly not back purging the pipes when they weld them. Each time they would add some new bracing that was going to stop them from cracking. MB puts a lot of time and research into exhaust manifold technology. If you're not going to get long tubes I personally beleive it's not worth the money spent.

You said something about LSD in your car. Did you change your diff?

Bought of set of these and they just arrived. I will be running them on my V8 Crossfire which uses C43 exhast manifolds. I did some research and found that most people with other types of cars love them. They are 304 16 guage polished stainless. OBX has a reputation of copying other designs and selling cheap. Not the most ethical thing to do but at $239. they are worth a try. These are different that AMS with a larger collector pipe. If they are copies they appear to have copied VRP. They look great and have larger pipes than the stock manifold. I don't expect much gains on their own but do hope they help better support other mods I am working on. shorties of any sort have not produced much in the way of gains on their own. I am also going to redo my down pipes and go CAT delete and I have some cool little devices to fool the O2 sensor. I think the stock system has two corks in the system being the stock manifolds and Cats. Removing just one cork doesn't do a lot.

Plaease keep us posted on the results and how you rate them when you can see and touch them. Don't think they fit the C43 due to different down pipe design, but I stand to be corrected.

I thought I was clear when I said I received them. I have touched and held them and they seem real good. I took them with me to a car show that was mostly high dollar street rods and my friends there all thought they looked great and well made. I haven't put them on yet but they appear to be exactly the same fitment as my stock C43 manifolds that are on the car.

Agree with this but Swain coating will probably cost the OP as much or more then he spent on his "headers"

LOL.. I will just stick with the highly polished finish. If they are 304 stainless then they can't rust and should last a long time.

It's not about the rust its about the heat. Coating your headers will reduce under hood temps which = more power

It costs about $350 for a V8 header

yes, that is a good point that I was overlooking. If they fit my car, they will fit a C43.

Sold the car before I had a chance to install them....

At $265, it was worth a gamble to see if there would be any power gains...

Such instant negativity for no reason...

Just because its a Mercedes Benz doesn't mean you must have the most expensive parts.

While OBX is a knock-off brand of headers, they are usually very good quality for the money. Yes someone, somewhere received a poor example, but for the majority, they are pretty well made.

OBX usually copies some of the best designed headers made for a particular model. While that is kind of a greasy thing to do, replicate a design that some other company spent countless hours and dollars creating. But still, it provides us with an affordable, well designed header.

Just because they are cheap doesn't mean they won't make power. Surely they will make more power than stock, it shouldn't take much to make more power than the stock headers. It might not be as high of gains as the kleemann headers, but at a fraction of the cost, you can't go wrong. Even if you gained 2hp, for the money, one couldn't complain.

You can get your headers ceramic coated at any local powder coating shop for much cheaper than $350, and it will provide similar gains as the "Swain" coating.

So much sweet talking around here on Kleeman headers. Anybody have some pics on the ones that fit a c43?
I doubt they can be much different than stock "log" type due to lack of space in that w202 engine bay under the hood. I can't see either how they can make a noticeable increase in hp, without going to equal length collectors.
So...... I'm sitting back and waiting like a "Doubting Thomas"
