TCU upgrade for C43
Just checked with Jerry @ Eurocharged to see if the TCU upgrade they are offering would be compatible with the C43. The upgrade will only work on the 2000 C43 as it uses the touch shift 5 speed which in turn uses the EGS52 controller where the 1998-1999 C43's use the EGS51 controller. The EGS51 controller is not programmable, the EGS52 is .
The question was brought up in another thread about switching the EGS51 for a EGS52, the reply was if it was that easy someone (Kleemann) would be offering a kit.
The upgrade will hold the gear a little longer, down shift a little quicker, and delimit top speed.
I have read a couple peoples reviews and all of them had AMG's and were impressed with the quick shifts. I wish this was compatible with our C43's

This is very interesting thread,, discussed with our fine friend Magnus(Abalone),, this upgrade need 2 important
things to change:
1) Valve body(Hydraulic unit) from 2001, started with 211 part#, or just put 2 Blue top solenoids instead of our
brownies
2) New TCU EGS52 with adaptation from dealer, cause some TCUs adapted with spec. ECUs and related with chassis

To upgrade to the newer egs you would definitely have to put the 2000+ tiptronic shifter in. Start authorization in the early cars comes from the tcu. The later ones it comes from the shifter. This would hardly be worth the work involved. And you would have to have the hp on the top end to even want this.
If faster shifts is what you are after though as said the blue tops will firm up and speed up the shifts a lot. Also tightening up the clearances in the clutch packs.

If the EGS52 cannot be retrofitted, does that mean replacing the brown tops with blue top solenoids is a worthwhile upgrade making the box shift better??

The Blue top solenoids are great for quick shift, but you well force a big junk in a converter, specially when gear
back shift, i like this upgrade, but i can’t handle that damn junk, it well effect with a lock of converter & gear mount
lately......

Hey Guys,
I've been a member and a loooooong time lurker Since 2006
I used to own a W220 but now I'm playing with a '98 Jag XJR.
Well, the Jag has the 722.6 trans and the EGS51 TCM to run it.
Like you guys I'd like to figure out a way to retrofit a touch shift system into the jag as I hate the J-gate with passion and would like the ease of program-ability of the EGS52.
Has anyone successfully gone through that? What was involved?
I was actually looking at Chrysler 300c parts since they seem to run the same system and they are cheap in the US.

As I'm sitting here typing I was thinking the same thing is this worth it? I personally love shifting the car myself if I run into a challenge. Never had a problem.
Best investment I've ever done to my car was drop in the 5.5L AMG motor hands down! It's the only thing thats gonna have the most immediate impact and make you really really enjoy the car.

Did anyone tried TCU standalone controllers, they may help as to reprogram our TPS/TCU functional, or can matching any Diff. ratio desired:

Zayed,
It must be in ECU only via EIS(Steering lock being coded but assume doesn't make any authorization?), the system I have is 00 Clk55 ME2.0/EGS51.
Recently I tried 00 C43 ECU/EIS being ME2.0/EGS51 which worked fine with clk55 egs51 TCU, however ECU wont talk to 00 Clk55 ESP!( need to install 00 C43 ESP module with correct harness plug)
Cheers

I recently bought 00 C200, with tiptronic shifter & TCU/EGS51,
when i removed the TCU, car wont start, i think MB saved the start authorization in the TCU file, isn't..?
i'm thinking to change the diff. Ratio, but if the fire-up in the TCU, it will be little more difficult to play with, without coding..!!

I think still authorization is in ECM, but maybe if no "Ok" from unplugged TCU than it doesn't allow start?!
ECM/EIS from my 00 C43 works with 00 Clk55 TCU so no link with authorization codes there

Yeah, little bit weird..!,
i think MB saved the start authorization (as chassis code) in the ECU/TCU together,
for that, ECU should to be coding with only EGS52 in the same time,
i'm thinking to bring 98-02 Clk430 diff. & TCU together, and put them in my C200, cause W208 is based of W202..!
i also may need gearbox as well during to a differ TQ..!?!?!

Zayed,
With clk430 diff maybe you will want 00 clk430 TCU eg51 as 98/99 have anolog inputs from gate shifter and 01/02 could be egs52!?
Hmm not sure about the different gearbox this will be a trail for you!, maybe check if the TC ,valves and valve body is same?
Cheers

I have Tiptronic shifter with EGS51,
i don't think it will work with EGS51 from gate shifter, during to the back signal from ECM module..!
that's why i'm confused why car won't start when i unplugged the TCU..?!?!

That's what i'm thinking Paul,
but not sure about fire-up issue,,
or i'm afraid gearbox will NOT shifting properly if i change the Ratio from "3.46 to 2.87", during to the differ Hp & Tq/Nm..!
