My car=back on the road... C50 'k'

Drove it today- still needs some slight tweaks.

I used a 5.0 from a 2006 model with about 40k on it. We swapped all the best parts from the pair of motors onto the new one and replaced many things with new (completely new cooling system). I am not running any methanol, intercooler or auxiliary fans currently. Still running the same heavily modified HPS gen 1 kit.

I expect insane tq and fun

Why did you decide to go with the 5.0 vs the 5.4?

Just a guess but it seems as if the 55 engine is a bit to large for the HPS supercharger to fill without really over spinning it. I'm interested in seeing how the 5.0 works out over the 4.3.

Wasn't the HPS supercharger designed for the 5.4?

HPS did a decent job of making brackets but I wouldn't say they "designed" anything... the supercharger can't keep up with a 5.4 without being spun to an inefficient thermal way.

I went with the 5.0 because it was cheap, available and certainly allowed me to hit any performance metric that I needed. The combination of this and my blower seems solid. I did some estimates of hp and tq with the various motor options out there and honestly just decided to be happy with this package. If I had gone with the larger motor I would have felt like I also had to send the blower out for porting etc. and then I'm sure I would have just been begging for transmission trouble sooner rather than, hopefully, later.

Any ideas why it idles like it has a huge vacuum leak, but doesn't?

have you checked the idle air control valve?

The HPS SC kit really do better with the 4.3 and 5.0 they suck on the 55. That what they told me.

I guess that's something you could listen to them about- after 4 or 5 years of the guys with "55" motors being pissed at them...

How do I troubleshoot IAC short of replacing it with a new one????

The Gen1 was originally designed for the 4.3 It was later sold to the 55 guys with a smaller pulley but never seemed to perform well on the larger engines.

I think the IAC can be checked with a bi-directional scan tool using commands to increase idle speed. No change in commanded idle speed would tell you there is a problem in the circuit, the wiring or the solenoid.

It should throw a code, have you checked for codes?

What about the O rings on the injectors, are you sure all of them are good and not cracked causing leaks?

Going to be more expensive to hook up to that tool than it would be to just replace it to see if that does it...

I will clean it carefully and see if that does anything for me first.

not sure what you guys are talking about, these motors do not have an IAC! Idle air is all controlled by the throttle motor.
