2016 C450 AMG turbo upgrade project

We can build the turbos whenever! Let us know we have all of the jigs builts, etc. Thanks!
-ECU tune
-tcu tune
- On 9G models, tcu tune requires CPC replacement
-Forged rods (perhaps limiting tq will reduce this requirement)
-HPFP (SpoolPerformance offers these)
Unfortunately not as simple as just purchase the turbo's and tune. this really needs to be tested by a tuning company and ideally offered as a stage 3 package and sorting out the torque so that rods don't have to be replaced

glad to hear everyone is well. Yep, project is on again! Everyone is back online despite increased concerns with COVID.
Luckily, everyone involved in the different states for this are deemed “essential business’s”
Anyway literally just passed through SF and paid in person for the MB parts needed for a full tear down and rebuild. So everything is 90% already paid in $$ on the front end for the build and 100% paid for on the back end with AMR. Your turbos have been wrapped by PTP custom heat wraps and look so pretty- can’t wait to see them installed.
Just coordinating with shipping company and another company who just reached out to me concerning also about intercooler/heat exchanger upgrade options.
Appreciate all your guys help and support and to everyone being patient following this thread.
Btw, yes the fuel system is also being upgraded but before my guy yanks the motor we will do a base Dyno, then post dyno, then dyno after AMR is done. 😁👍
Stay Tuned everyone! (pun intended)
Full engine build MB parts are ordered, finally! Special thanks to my guys out in Cali and to
all those who have contributed to this project.

As far as built engine reinforcement, it was rods, pistons and rod bearings or not the pistons? I believe the pistons are forged stock and fairly decent but I guess you may as well upgrade them while your in there.
keeping tranny and TCU stock? HPFP? I’d be surprised if the reg HPFP could keep up given they felt they needed two in the c63 (and they’re the same pump).
keep at it!

Yes engine build in addition to the Turbokits.com turbos, Snow Meth Kit, AMR tune & DP’s- Phase 2 is now pulling the motor and upgrading rods to 4340 Pauter rods, bearings, seals, lower compression JE custom pistons, JE rings, ARP head/stud bolts as well as upgrading the fuel pump/system to a custom Walbro HPFP.
For heat management discussed with Ron Davis Racing, Wagner and now potentially a third company about fab/installing an upgraded heat exchanger/intercooler system.
As for the tranny spoke with Cory over at Weistec last year and they said the tranny is pretty tough and as far as our model goes there is nothing out there as far as off the shelf “upgraded trannys”.
With that being said Cory did mention that if I would send them my tranny they could do a tear down and potentially build a “billet version” as it “looks” similar to their other 722.9 versions.
Of course caveat is the immense amount of time involved doing that as well as the $$$. So for now haven’t yet pulled the trigger on doing a custom weistec tranny but installed their upgraded 722.9oil pan which fit like a glove so there is hope.
Another interesting transmission component would be the torque converter which weistec does have for the 722.9 (hadn’t verified vin yet) but at $3K plus install have to do more research to see if it is more beneficial than factory.
Thanks again for following the thread.

Thanks to all who are following this project. So Wagner just posted they had 8 units in stock of their WMI intercooler package and finally was able to pull the trigger and order one. (Just hoping while they had been out of stock for awhile they corrected the position of the bungs)
Should arrive in about tens days or so via FEDex. I’ll post pics of the system when it arrives.
Next on the list is to decide on which HPFP to go with to run E85.
Spool FX-180? ($2400)
Or a HPFP upgrade kit for the stock pump ($500)?
Anyone have experience going with either one?
Always thankful for the positive input.
Have a great week everyone.
Just coordinating with AMR now and setting up a date to ship the car to CT; also coordinating work schedule to fly out as well when the car arrives to get some photos and post the initial pre install dyno numbers.
Slight delay since I was waiting for my custom carbon fiber skinned hood to arrive from Georgia and to finally install it.
Custom CF skinned hood initial fit & install

Have fun with your build as well. Yeah seems that finally more and more parts are available off the shelf. Much better when I started this. Almost nothing was available all had to be customed. Some nice hoods in CF available now for our models so you don’t have to go through the expense/pain/time/lawyer involved- to get a fiberglass one skinned lol.

Of course not everyone’s taste, and wouldn’t know how the glass would hold up. Another option is the classic C63 Black series style seen here:
https://www.carid.com/2016-mercedes-...218932507.html
Quite a few options available just google search “C43 W205 Carbon fiber hood” most of the time the companies has it searchable by the “C43” keyword and then will say if it will fit the C450 which it should.
For me the fun is in the journey as well as the final destination.
Hope this helps and good luck as well with your build.

Came home to find a nice Wagner package on the doorstep. Pretty amazed how fast the kit arrived through customs.
Great packaging, just sharing some photos. Got their WMI version.
Next up is ordering the HPFP Spool FX-180 and possibly LPFP upgrade kit.
Has anyone upgraded their fuel system with these to run E85? Any experience or tips is always appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
You’ll 100% need a LPFP to run full e85 (and possibly bigger turbos) reliably. The guys over at Martin tuning have done some testing and LP fuel pressure drops fast as you start increase ethanol concentration. MartinTuning offers a lpfp that i use and it’s performing great, plug and play and easy install. That’s the only lpfp I've worked with and the customer support over theres has been great as well. Haven’t heard any feedback on other lpfp.
You’re also going to need a HPFP with bigger turbos regardless of whether or not you use ethanol. My understanding is the full e85 might need more supporting mods than just the fx180 and the kinks are still being ironed out!

Yeah just responded to another WMI post. For sure I totally agree about www.Martintuning.com after speaking with Dan he really helped me understand the larger picture. Gave him my VIN and he is going so far as to build a new LPFP for the C450amg since it is different than the C43 model.
Did go with his package which also had the Fx-180 and an upgraded fuel rail for added flow. So far he suggested that the injectors should be fine to handle E85 but will cross that road when we get there.
Couldn’t recall are you running E85 as well?

I believe injectors should be fine. I believe we have the same injectors as v8’s which run full e85!

Thanks for following the thread.
