Cars You Won't Race, And Cars You Will
This weekend I was driving - minding my own business. Out of nowhere a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 pulls alongside, revs his engine and pulls off. I am thinking to myself, "OK, this thing has 425HP, 450FT LBS TORQUE... let's run". And so we ran... it wasn't even close.
That got me thinking that there are certain cars that are just a waste of time and will not provide good competition. And, of course, there are cars that will... so I thought it'd be fun to compile a list .
Based on my experiences... these are cars that have started something with me but, upon running them, I will not waste my time in the future.
On the flip side, here are a couple cars that provided good runs. This list is short because up here in Seattle it is hard to engage - people are weak up here.

You can scratch the GT500 off that list, those things are paper tigers. Barely even more get-up-and-go than the SRT-8's. I have to say I was disappointed at how badly I bludgeoned one on the highway in my M5. Just goes to show that the old solid rear axle has been by far and away surpassed.

FYI -- A tuned (PROcede v3 or JB3) BMW 335i will give a stock C63 AMG a very good run...from a dig OR a roll; very close to a stock C63 AMG in 1/4 mi. ET and Traps. My PROcede v3 335i ran 4.3 sec. 0-60mph and the 1/4 mi. in 12.8sec. @ 111mph, and I only had the piggyback tune making ~ 350WHP / 360 lb.-ft. RWTQ; others have the piggyback + DPs, intake, exhaust, etc. make close to or more than 400WHP / 410 lb.-ft. RWTQ.

Stock, I pretty know what I can beat and what I cannot. I would like to race these cars if I do end up getting a Kleemann K2.

The solid axle isn't for everything, but for straight line acceleration, you can't beat it.

what kind of stupid nonsense is this. In a straight line, a solid axle is by far the best way of putting the power down. Its far lighter than an IRS, suffers less parasitic loss, and plants the tires very nicely. It also doesn't have a problem with alignment changes with big power, which was a problem on mustang IRS platforms.

Not necessarily; these F/I tt BMW's do quite well on just 93 octane. Many highly tuned 335i's/135's are pushing 370-390WHP / > 400 lb.-ft. RWTQ with piggyback tune, DPs, intake, and exhaust. With race gas, > 400WHP is very attainable, but again, the 335i is 3,600lbs., which is a good 400lbs. lighter than the C63 AMG. All I was saying is that you shouldn't be too cocky around one as it may be tuned and you may get a very challenging run or get beat, that's all. I have heard a number of tuned 335i "kill" stories on a C63 AMG. Now, if the C63 AMG is also tuned with an ECU flash and such, then adios Bimmer.

Sure, it works great on PERFECTLY SMOOTH, FLAT PAVEMENT, add a few bumps in there and you'll be spending 99% of your time off camber with a contact patch that looks like origami time on the short bus. We're talking the real world here, not Toreto and the boys at E-town.

I think you'd beat the GT500 and you'd definitely beat any of the SRT-8 sedans...unless they're modded (i.e. Hennessey products, etc.)...then it'd be a nice run!

M3 with M-DCT is a small challenge but im pretty confident the C63 can beat it in any straight road, at any speed.
6-spd M3 is even slower.

I have some experience with a high horsepower solid axle car, and aside from overpowering the drag radials in first gear and sometimes second, the solid rear axle plants the power extremely well in almost every instance.

AMG & RR
Take M3 off the list. In a straightline u'll be atleast 1 to 2 car lenghts ahead.
On the other hand add a Lamborghini Gallardo (not LP560) on the list. It gives a good run till about 5th gear then the C63 pulls ahead by 1/4 of a car legnth. btw that is a Rolling Start!
Be Safe & Enjoy!

Yes, SRT8 with CAI, Cat-back, and tune should give a Stock C63 a good run, maybe even pull on it at highway speeds. SRT's are monsters on the freeways. I know this cuz I have one.

Think about it like this the C63 cant beat a SC 5.5 in the E55 and its bigger and heavier than the GT500. The 500 has more power and torque than either.
I'm turning 560 to the rear tire and 564 tq. About 650HP on motor with a Stage 2-3 setup. Evem with a stage1 intake and tune you can get about atleast 500RWHP out of it. As for the independent rear comment earlier the straight axle is better in drag cars any way how many real drag racecars run independent rear ends. That's for cornering and such and why I installed Steeda suspension on mine to help out when I hit a corner
