Hardwired Escort 9500i Radar Detector :: Photos

Some quick pics of my "pseudo" hard-wired Escort Passport 9500i radar detector.

Instead of tapping into a power source, I used an aftermarket Cigarette Lighter Plug w/ Straight (Flat) Power Cord run above the headliner, down the passenger side A-pillar and into the glove box's switched 12V outlet.

The LED color matches perfectly with the mirror, the detector has a clear/level view of the road ahead and it is barely visible from the outside.

Very nicely done - did the same thing except it was run directly to the fuse box. It really cleans up the interior nicely!!!!

That's the way to go!

Unfortunately, there is no fuse box in the interior cabin of the C63.

I like your install, just how I wired my V1, although I put the detector to the left of the mirror. Btw, I noticed your mirror has a compass display. Mine doesn't

Great pic's.. But prefer the V1.

V1 # 1 Radar Detector - http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...mparison_tests

NRGY - I think there are a few buttons on the rearview that allow you to select the compass.

What didn't you like about the 9500i when you personally tried it?

BTW, the link/review you posted is from 2002.

My mirror (Automatic Anti-Dazzle) doesn’t have any buttons.

How did you get it to stick to the dot matrix materia behind the mirror?

That's super neat, Wayne!!! I may have to pick your brain and do that! I was going to get the 9500xi but didn't go through with it because I hated having wires dangling around my dashboard. Great job!

simple plug and play - find the same voltage fuse as the cigarette lighter - plug it in. This is the cord that will plug into your fuse box - remember to ground it or it won't work! should be able to throw up pics latter.

nice job.

Too bad detectors are illegal here with very heavy fines.

It is a good place to put it, however, on the top of the 9500 is the reverse radar pickup, and It is covered in you current setup. In my e55 I had it in the same place, just a little lower and to the right!

There is only one radar antenna/horn on the 9500i and it faces forward. I think you are talking about the little rear laser port on the top of the unit. I'm not worried about that at all as laser detection is worthless. If you get hit with laser and all you have is a detector, you're getting a ticket.

I'm addressing the laser issue in the Spring when I install the Blinder M47 jammers.

Superlubricity, I have a quick questions for your set-up. Do you have pic about how to set the wire above the headliner and down the passenger side A-pillar? I want to learn how to do it in the clean way..Thanks, man!

Nice install. I have my V1 on the left side so it's easier to mute it.

Sorry, I don't have pics but I'll try to describe what I did.

The area between the headliner and windshield has plenty of space to hide the wire. I pulled the A-pillar out just far enough to get the flat wire to lay behind the cover up top and then I ran the wire behind the fabric covered rubber strip that runs the length of the front of the A-pillar frame.

Hope that helps.

That link is from 2002. It is 2010 now and the V1 is obsolete.

I have my passport hardwired to the fuse box. If you open the driver's side door and look at the steering column then look just down and to the left of that where I believe there's some sort of warning sticker, there's a plastic piece that you can pop out to reveal the fuses.

Really? I couldn't find anything like that. Are there 12V switched sources there? Can you please take a pic?

No need to attach it. It fits/rests above the headliner.
