Drove through a puddle

I drove through a decent sized puddle earlier today, didn't see it at all until it was too late.. Now it looks like my left headlight isn't working and there's some decent condensation in there.. High beams and fog lights still working, just the low left beam it looks like.

MB Service is closed until Monday so looks like I'm stuck with 1 headlight til then. Should I tell them I ran through a puddle? I don't care if I have to pay out of pocket, but this shouldn't void any type of warranty right? Just means that they won't cover it under warranty and I'll have to pay out of pocket?

Seems like you have a hole/opening in your headlight somewhere. It should be covered under warranty but I doubt they do stock those headlights in. Might take a couple days to order the part

I don't think it had to do with the water, maybe it does but maybe is just bad luck that the headlight lamp is blown.

IT WILL BE COVERED BY WARRANTY, ABSOLUTELY. No headlight should just fill with condensation after a puddle. The car is a modern machine designed to be driven in all weather. It's tested in severe conditions. This is not some Studabaker from the 1920's...

cars are meant to go through puddles - so you're good (thats unless youve done anything to the housing like bimmer owners used to do with angel eyes)

Well lets asume that the op has drivien in rain before and his head lamp never filled up with condensation... but after he hit the puddle its not working and there is water in so i would belive it was sumergered under water and i bet if you take any headlamp from any modern car and sumerge it under water it will get water in it.... Guys these are cars not boats..

Yeah if you're driving through puddles that big, it may be an insurance issue.

well, not really. If the problem is the result of him driving through a puddle that was unreasonably deep, then it would be an insurance issue, not a warranty problem.

If he's modified the housing, then he's most likely on his own.

I guess the key word here was "puddle". I wasnt assuming that a puddle was something over a foot deep. But after what we got this weekend it wouldnt surprise me.

Id say wait to let it dry, then bring it in - the less u tell them the better. They cant blame u for driving through an oversized puddle if they dont know

Just say the light went out and you noticed the moisture. When in doubt, lie!

Don't have to lie about it. Just mention two unrelated events.

It was raining last night. I noticed the light is out this morning.

How about just telling the truth: Your headlight has some condensation in it and you want it sorted or replaced under warranty. End of story.

Unless your headlight has had a previous altercation with something solid, you should be A OK!

Got back from the dealer a while ago and unfortunately the problem goes a little deeper than just having to replace the headlight bulb.. They told me they will need to do some more digging to find out what the problem is, and after that they will need to see if it can be covered under warranty. If it isn't covered under warranty, will I need to pay out of pocket? Or can my insurance pay for it?

Guess it depends how much it will cost and whether or not you have a deductible. And whether it will affect your premium.

I have a $1k deductible, so Id consider just paying it myself.
