Painting chrome trim black 2009 c63 DIY...

Folks,

Quick question.. I have a black c63 and have been looking at having the black chrome trim (around the windows/trunk) and possibly the badges painted a matching black. Since no professional seems to be willing to do this in san diego, I was looking into doing it myself.

Does anyone have guidance on the best way to approach this?

TIA

Im actually in San Diego too. I just used Vinyl sheets and as ghetto as it sounds, i just electrical tape around the doors and it worked really well. I used the Vinyl wrap on my grill too, so when i get some rock chips on my grill i just peeled the vinyl wrap off and redo it. Also Vinyl wrap was great for the side mirrors and front turn signal markers. Ill take some pictures for you today. If you have any other questions let me know.

As others have said, vinyl it. If you're not a DIY and willing to drive up to LA, I have an excellent vinyl guy here. If you're set on painting and as you're in SD, check out Group 5 Motorsports (San Diego proper, ask for Troy), HG Motorsports(La Jolla, ask for Dieter), West Coast Specialties (Miramar, ask for Ryan). They should be able to take care of you.

Anyone got pointers to good how-to DIY instructions for vinyl? I just want to do my window trim.

You guys are awesome!! Great pics--I was originally set on doing the paint on the trim, but the vinyl looks very nice. I like the ability to be able to remove it if damaged or if I ever need to sell the car (hopefully not anytime soon .

avengerboater has done his own. It looks sharp.

I'd like to do my window/trunk trim and grill as well.

Perhaps we should have a local Vinyl meet.

Who wants to host?

Got any full frontal shots of the car?

Also did you use the "wet" apply type vinyl or the dry stuff that everyones been using lately?

Finally, did you remove any pieces or did you just apply and cut? I am about to do some pieces
on my m3 and am not sure if its possible to apply vinyl correctly without removing the pieces prior
to wrapping them.

I just used dry vinyl. I did remove the front grill just because it took 30 secs to do. I ordered vinyl sheets both matte and gloss, then did a rough cut of the sheets to the shape I wanted and lightly stretched it on and used an exacto knife to cut off the extra. It was super easy and the vinyl was very forgiving and easy to work with. I used rvinyl.com and ordered uncut colored sheets. You could have done it when it was on the car, but I just removed so I didn't look like a douche blacking out my C63 on the street. Any more questions lemme know.
