2012 COMAND online?
Can someone with a 2012 confirm if the new COMAND allows for internet browsing, apps, weather, etc? I am seeing conflicting info out there, and I think it differs between geographies as well.
Also does it support street views, sending routes from google maps from your pc?
Finally, does it have the "one shot" feature where you can say a whole street address/city in one place versus having to cycle through each step? Ie "enter destination, 1000 park place, Atlanta, Georgia"

Mine does not do any of that. Weather forecast is through sat radio Sirius. Navigation voice command is still one at a time. Where did you hear otherwise?

I use iPhone 4 and I think it depends on the phone you use according to this site. http://telematicsnews.info/2011/01/1...enshots_j2131/
I'll research more about it.

The AMG Performance Media system available on the SLS and C63 Black is Android-based, and has apps the apps you speak of, google search, internet etc, but those parts of it are deactivated when it comes to the US.

Found this thread:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread...art=0&tstart=0
Which has some useful info. For the US:
- Internet browsing and such is enabled on COMAND through your mobile device, but not for iphone 4/4s - this works today with "dun" enabled phones which is apparently an older technology than iphone 4's
- 2nd half of 2012 when the new update is released, iphone support will be available as well as access to apps, etc. - this is probably going to be a hardware update and those of us with older versions will be screwed. total assumption based on how they have done this in the past.
- Maybe I missed it in the thread, but dont see a way you can maybe jailbreak the iphone to get a DUN profile
- Also cant tell if an ipad or other device can be used instead

DUN is just a profile type (Bluetooth or USB), it is a legacy name attached to profiles, and stands for Dial up Networking (nothing to do with modems, when it comes to cellular devices).
It however is exactly what is required to tether your device via BT or USB. Some of the newer profiles just emulate USB Ethernet, and use wifi as a hotspot (wifi access point).
It will be software update, not a hardware update, as the hardware required for the above is already in everything that supports bluetooth, usb and wifi (the profiles are software based not hardware).
The problem is going to be your cellphone carrier, they all charge an arm and a leg and a head and a foot for tethering (data is data, they are bending you over a barrel and screwing you up the anus, no kiss or hug goodbye afterwards either). There are ways around this, but that is for another thread.
I do not have the exact details on how the comand online system works, but based on teh fact that it is new technology, I an guessing it uses the current version of tethering, wifi hotspot or USB ethernet which requires no changes to Comand itself other then to support wifi or dhcp for the USB option to pull and IP address.
Unless they are chosing a client/server solution route, which uses an agent on teh phone to proxy traffic to the comand system (there are a number of tethering apps that use that method to get around the carriers detecting unauthorized tethering.)
Anyone have a link to the hardware and development specs to the Comand Online system (if available...)

Okay, so I did a little looking around, and read the apple thread..
MB went with an industry standard BT DUN and will be releasing PAN update (this should only be a software update, depending on whether or not the BT chipset they implemented can be updated in our cars). Most android phones support PAN and DUN if you use an aftermarket rom (poke around XDA developers for your device), this comes back to carrier customizations that remove those profiles on purpose to prevent their use without paying the carrier toll. Apple chose to omit ALL BT profiles except the headset, and stereo headphone profiles on purpose (many were pissed by that, but it is apple, they do as they please).
The module update is completely different, that is hardware based, and will utilize a sim card (you won't be able to play teh swap sim from phone to car and back game in the US since the carriers do all sorts of crap to prevent people from purchasing data devices, and using their cell sim to use it, they want and will force you to purchase a tethering account). Not sure if MB dealers will just swap out the modules for people affected free of charge, but most likely not.

Congratulations to you on your coupe Marty. I ummed and arr'd for weeks as to which way to go. Ultimately I went for the flexibility of the 4 doors, I think the fact they had the car on the floor had a bit to do with my decision too. Benz has a special where they give you an iPad and a bunch of other free things up to the end of the month. Have the total of 138 kms on it! Isn't the wether crook at the moment? Makes you want to leave the car in the garage and drive the wife's car!

Any more info/confirmation on this from US 2012 owners?
Here is an example in the B-class:

Can we do this stuff with the 2012 or no?

I'm just hoping that MB don't screw over the existing owners with a $1000 update to get a feature which was promised when we bought the car (i.e. "iphone internet support coming in a few months or so").
