Should I get an oil change?
I just bought a new MY2011 car that had been sitting in the dealer lot for a while (they claimed 240 days). The date on the sticker inside the drive door shows 10/10. The car had 65 miles when I bought it, and now it has around 500 miles.
Considering how long it has been sitting, should I get an oil change? Would you recommend Service A instead of just an oil change? Anything else I need to consider given my situation?
I'm taking the car to the dealer on Friday to have the MBrace software updated.

Thanks! I am planning on taking the car to a highly rated (on yelp) local shop so I can specify the exact oil to use. Should I go for Mobil 0W40 Synthetic?

Do you take your car to Laguna Niguel? I bought my C63 and serviced it there until I moved back to Chicago this past month.
John Mosqueda is the guy you should talk to in service. He took really good care of me along with Steve Hall in sales. Both are great with customer service and don't BS ya.

Definitely change out the oil. Either 0W-40 or 5W-40 is fine.
Also, if the car has been stationary for almost a year make sure the tires don't have any flat spots.

If you could pick either, which one would you go for?

Ive been using 0W-40 since I got the car but recently switched to 5W-40 on my last oil change. I would stick with 5W-40 since that's what most dealers recommend using.

I use the 0W-40 because that is what the AMG Driving Academy uses in all the cars.
Plus it has more ash (I think I have that right), a wear inhibitor.

I changed mine at 1 000km (not a service A) as recommended. It's good to flush the first oil earlier.

MIght be a bit late given you have taken delivery of the car already but if you are going back to the dealer see if you can get them to do the oil change as a "goodwill" gesture. Worth a try

I would have asked for this when I picked up the car, but since it was a Sunday, their service department was closed. Now that is not an option since the dealer I bought it from is over 6 hours away!

I'm not sure why you would need an oil change. The oil isn't getting dirty even sitting for a year. The motor is not open to the elements. Moisture would be burned off as soon as the engine warms up. Even still, an oil change is cheap if you're that worried.
My car sat for a long time at the dealer also. the only failure I had was a bad alternator. It was tough to diagnose because the symptoms were a bad battery. They replaced my battery which lasted a couple months before failing again. By then my warranty had expired and the alternator was not cheap!

I'm not sure why you're supposed to change the oil yearly if you're not driving much. That's exactly the advice I got with my Ducati. If you don't reach the mileage for an oil change, then you should still change it after a year has passed. "Stale" oil that's been sitting around, not being moved around, not being warmed up, can't be good for your car. Oil changes are usually around $100. Cheap insurance if you ask me.
