Carbon Fiber 3M Interior Wrapped

Hey guys. Haven't really been on here in a while since i purchased my C63 2 months ago. So far i am really enjoying the car alot. Gas is a bit of a PITA since i kinda have a heavy foot lol, but overall well worth it. I was debating wether or not to purchase the original Carbon Fiber interior pieces. However after finding out how much it costs i decided to go the alternate route and wrap it myself. I had experience with this stuff before in the past on my 2006 Nissan 350Z and after having time of playing around with it before, i knew this was going to be a piece of cake. Along with the interior i decided to wrap the front grille as well as the rear chrome trim piece above the license plate. It came out really great. Here are some few pics. Feel free to leave feedback on my work.

is there a reason why you switch up the weave direction on the side panels? just like that look?

DIY Advice...

This looks really great! I've been dying to try this on my 2005 CL65...

Can you give advice on doing this? Possibly a short DIY write up?

I have a few questions:

1) Which product did you use? (I have heard that some are easier to use than others).
2) Did you remove the pieces to do this?
3) Did you have to use heat to get the wrap to form?

Thanks in advance, any advice will be greatly appreciated. Again... Love the car and the wrap!

I bought the material at CarbonFiberfilm.com Amazing website, and pretty affordable too. Its all 3M product and lasts for a very very long time.

Material used were:

8sq ft. of 3M Carbon fiber(still have small extras left)
Heat Gun
Lots of brand new sharp razor blades

What i did was basically wrapped around the pieces on the doors and didn't remove any of them except the ones with the seat adjust buttons. The material is very heat gun friendly. It acts like a shrink wrap when you apply gentle heat, giving you the shape where it needs to cut at around the edges. I advise you if you have never done this before, remove the door panels and take the pieces out it will be much easier and less stressful. i found a DIY thread on removing the door panels using the search tab on here. Once you cut around the edges, makes sure to apply more heat so that the remaining edges wrap around and leave a nicely cut area. The center console pieces i did remove to wrap around them. Fairly easy to removes just search for the DIY on here For the grille pieces and the rear piece i heat wrapped around the desired area and gently cut around the edge without causing any damage to the vehicle. The rear piece you have to leave just a bit extra to tuck in the top so it looks like one whole CF piece, if not then some chrome will be still exposed I had to play with that piece a few times for it to come out just right. Once again i advise you to do this at your own risk. Keep in mind damaging any of the interior pieces, will be costly to replace, since i had to replace the Memory buttons alone due to the CF material sticking to it an peeling of the black layer of paint. Not a cheap part, but luckily i have a hook up and the benz parts department. Overall this is the best option if you want to have the CF look if you are on a budget. i paid $60 for the piece and save about $1000 for the real thing and IMO this flat Carbon look feels and looks great.

Great job... you must have great skills cuz I would prolly mess up if I were doing it with a razor blade w/o removing the pcs... LOL

Just one thing though, I would have left the black part of the grill alone & just wrap the chrome part. That's just me though.

Finally, I see that you have the AMG CF license plate holder... can you post more pics of it from a distance... I'm interested in them, but not sure if it stands out too much. Thx

I think i have a pic somewhere of the Plate holder. I will check it out and post it later on. The Chrome Trim pieces are more difficult to wrap due to the many angels involved.

actually that was one of the easiest pieces to wrap. the only PITA part was taking it off because it has really thin tabs that hold it in place. pretty much all of the items are cake to wrap. if you take the pieces off the doors its even easier. i took the risk of not removing the trim and carefully wrapped the pieces.

When i did this mod on my c300, i took everything out except the door panels. Everything comes out easy but be careful with the ash tray piece. It can break very easily. As far as wrapping it, it depends on how much experience you have. If its your first time, leave that for last as the sharp edges will be a challenge. Learn to play with the film and you can redo it if you dont like it. The film does not bend or rip easily and if you have problems, use a heat gun. I the film starts to lose the adhesive, buy some 3m vinyl glue and apply it or the extra hold.

Would it be possible to use the film to cover the chrome strip around a E63?

Are you talking about the back piece on the trunk and yes you can apply it anywhere. Just make sure you buy enough.

Thanks...

Yes that, but mainly the tiny ones in the bumper and door sides....

How thick is the material?

Depends who u get it from. Stickercity ha a thinner but more durable one. Carbonfibergear has a thicker one. And yes u can wrap all the interior pieces. I did my brothers e550 and it came out great but he doesnt have the car anymore and i dont have pics.
