Stock OEM MB Carbon Ceramic Brake Conversion
This is a new thread to delete the old "Brembo brake package" thread so I'll give you an update.
I was looking for the most cost effective way to convert to Carbon Ceramic brakes without spending a fortune. I inquired a few of the major brake builders like Brembo and Wilwood. They all wanted a fortune so I thought about experimenting with the stock OEM CC brakes that come on the new 2012 E, SLS, and CLS AMG's. Ordered the front right rotor to make sure it fit and it did. So then I ordered the caliper and it fit but needed a spacer to move the caliper out to fit the new larger rotor(made sense).
The only challenge that surfaced was the 18" wheels will not fit over these. I then inquired HRE to custom make some 19" wheels to fit over these brakes. To my surprise HRE said they could not and neither could Forgestar, Forgeline, or Rennen so I began to think this project was dead.
I have to stick with 19" because the Hoosier R6 tires do not come in a 20" for road racing and that was the whole(sole) purpose behind the CC brake conversion.
The SLS, CLS, and E all have stock 19" wheels so whats going on????? Am I stuck running a stock OEM bulky heavy wheel??
As a last resort I decided to try the stock OEM C63 BS front wheels because there was originally a Ducatti edition C63 BS that was going to have the CC brakes. That being said I hoped the C63BS wheels would fit over these larger brakes because they would need to "IF" they had the Ducatti edition(which never materialized).
Well, I got the stock OEM MB C63 BS wheels today and they fit great!!!!!!!!!!
Merry Christmas to me!!
The best news is that they only weigh 21.4#!!
Here is the progression:
Test fitting the rotor and caliper. Needs a spacer and brake pads.
Everything lines up!!
Spacers:
New OEM C63BS wheels:
There is plenty of space between the caliper and wheels. What you are seeing is the stock caliper hanging behind the new CC caliper.
Well, there you have it. The stock OEM AMG CC brakes for the E, CLS, and SLS can be adapted to our little "c".
The rears are next.
Part of my dilemma - do I leave the new wheels silver and gray as they are as a contrast to the dark color car or have them painted gloss black?? I will purchase the rear wheels to match and have them widened to accomodate the wider tires.

Definately go gloss black for your BS wheels!!
This is a hell of braking system. Rotor is as big as a 18' wheel itself lol
By the way you now have CC brakes in all 4 corners or just right front?

New wheels again Dad.. Insanity at its finest! Lol
Edit: leave them silver/polished if u want a classy look, paint them black if u want sporty look.. Either ways, ur car will look sick as always.

Wow great retrofit.
Have you thought about using the same carbon ceramic hardware setup on the front for the rear? Or will that be too much overkill?

^^ I don't think he can unless he custom make new calipers mount. But it would be nice to have huge rear rotors. :P

If you are considering this the best possible pricing that I have found is through MHP on their web site. I have a local machine shop that made the spacers for me. If you want a pair let me know and I'll get them for you along with the longer stronger bolts. They are not expensive.

Amazing - I had the urge to add CC's to my CLS, but I was advised not to by some AMG staff. That said, I am back on the CC train with my Black Series - even better to know the (front) wheels fit. Please keep us updated as you move forward!

Great news that the wheels fit! You've been stressing this for a while and I think this solution will look great whichever color you choose. before you try adapting a set of front rotors to the rear, I would strongly encourage you to give Sharif a call at Forged. My first thought is that you will change the front/rear braking bias in a way that might upset the chassis dynamics. I am not aware of any racing setups where the braking capacity is near 50/50. You could possibly get around this with a less aggressive pad in the rear but I don't know how many options there are for cc rotors.

I hadn't thought about that but thats correct if you want to use the BS 19" wheels. You can always use 20" wheels on the front and leave 19" on the rear and not need the BS wider fenders. The brakes are just larger diameter. The caliper is less than a 1/4 thicker than the stock AMG calipers.

All I can say is WOW!!!
You are THE MAN!
I can't wait to see the finished picture of the car all polished up like the last set when you just finished the body conversion. I believe those C63 BS wheels are one of the best looking wheels out there right now by manufacturer. Then you have Carbon Ceramic brakes!!!
